With the introduction of the 1 Series coupe and convertible BMW has gone retro, at least in marketing. At releases they have mentioned comparisons to the 2002, had them present for the viewing public and have even named a concept with the suffix tii. So what is the reason for all this? Is it to feed the publics’ love of nostalgia in order to sell more cars? Is it simply BMW going back to their origins and what made people fall in love with the brand: a practical and sporty car?
That is for you to decide but here at Bimmerfile we thought we should give the 1972 2002tii an introduction to all those too young to have experienced the car in its hay-day or for those of you that wish you had never sold yours a trip down memory lane!

Based on the reader comments from our recent 135i review, it looks as if quite a few of you have questions. Lots of questions. And since we’ve driven the entire 1 Series range and learned just about everything there is to know about the car from the recent BMW press event, we’re here to answer them. We’ll start by answering a few of the questions posed in the comment section of our recent review. If you have any further questions not answered here, be sure to ask them in the comment section below. We’ll plan on posting answers (if we can) next week.

Q: Do you think we’ll get any idea about when the DCT will make to the 135i in April too?
A: I don’t expect the DCT anytime soon on the 1 series and it might not make it during this generation. However you can expect it eventually.

Offering this outstanding innovation, BMW ConnectedDrive gives the driver and his passengers the option to surf the internet while travelling, calling up any random internet site either by entering the URL address through the iDrive control system or via a personalised list of favourites, and then presenting the website on the central display in the instrument panel.
