335i to get 135i’s E-Diff in Future Variant

BimmerFile Exclusive: According to some very well placed sources, electronic differential and specialized DSC currently found in the 135i will eventually make it’s way to a special performance variant of the 335i expect in the next few years. Look for the 335i to follow along the tradition of the 330i Performance Package that was offered over the last several model years of the E46’s model life-cycle (US only) complete with many of the components found in the newly released “BMW Performance” catalogue.

You had me worried with this when I was considering purchasing a 328i.

However the owners manual for 3 series (starting in 2008) and 135 both claim to have an E-Diff in them. Or, is there a difference between the two?

Both 3 series (2008 and later) and 1 series owners’s manuals state: “in the same way as with a differential interlock, even if DSC is deactivated, brake actions are still performed on the rear axle to enhance drive output if the drive wheels experience a significant loss of traction.”

Maybe this feature was already added to the 3 series?

About BimmerFile

BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.

We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.

In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
