A Friday teaser

BMW marketing is at it again; teasing us with something like dangling a carrot in front of a rabbit. I am fairly sure what this teaser is for but let’s see with you are astute readers come up with…

A Grand Prix maybe? I could possibly not be an astute reader…

Rich Jun 13th, 2008 Link

Wow.. that was really well put together for a teaser. No idea what it is, but I’m definitely hyped to find out!

Greg Jun 13th, 2008 Link

new 7 series…

Stefano Tomasello Jun 13th, 2008 Link

Business settings, red carpet, etc… The new 7 series?

zzzapp Jun 13th, 2008 Link

7 series? Mind you they’ve set all the lights to green and made sure the bridge is open, so… something with no brakes?

Garth Jun 13th, 2008 Link

I suspect it is a teaser for BMW’s hybrid driveline, X5 maybe? Either that or the beginning of the roll out for the F01/02 7 series. Astute? No, not really…

Sunrise, fresh paint, water = new beginning/era
Red Carpet, white gloves = luxury
red –> green lights suggest product release

It seems to be well timed with the the new 7. Not enough in there about energy, so I think it’s product and not technology related.

7?

Michael Jun 13th, 2008 Link

Some good guesses there….
Let me give a little hint-> What are they doing to the streets and carpet etc.? If you answer that it will help with the rest.

zzzapp Jun 13th, 2008 Link

E90 refresh surprise early announcement?

Gabe Jun 13th, 2008 Link

Wow - that’s pretty much my morning Chicago commute. Without the cars.

Dave Z Jun 13th, 2008 Link

BMW is moving their USA headquarters to Chicago!

Jon Jun 13th, 2008 Link

Definitely the 7 series.

Once I saw the red carpet being rolled out, I knew it.

The video has the following tags at bmw-web.tv:
* technology
* luxury
* EfficientDynamics
* energy
* BMW
* cars
* new
* ActiveHybrid
* emission free
* technologies
* limousine
* clean

My guess is, the new 7er with an ActiveHybrid drive train.

Wraith Jun 13th, 2008 Link

just an off the wall guess here, but… announcement of an R8 rival???

Eliot R. Jun 13th, 2008 Link

I didn’t think of the release of the 7er until I read these comments. But I first reaction was some sort of new hydrogen technology that BMW is on the verge of releasing.

Michael Jun 13th, 2008 Link

I think we have some good comments here! Just to hit home the fact that BMW will be releasing the new 7 soon (07.07) and that there will be a hybrid version as well as the fact as someone else mentioned there is indeed a new hydrogen 7 and a new hydrogen system that I am working on getting some more info on.

We are not completely sure what the implications of this teaser are but they did put a lot of work into it.

The cleaning of the lines, carpet and hosing things off was a nice touch. The lights being red as in stop then all green (green as in green tech) also was quite original. All in all it was impressive and nice to see BMW is using there marketing ability in other mediums.

BTW expect some more info on the ACTIVE HYBRID real soon!

I love Chicago… BMW to debut the 7 at Sixteen in the Trump Hotel…

Jamie L. Jun 15th, 2008 Link

When the white line is repainted, it means BMW is setting a new standard. I am guessing Active Hybtid/Diesel Engine.

Lee L Jun 16th, 2008 Link

Interesting the Limousine tag. Could they make a hybrid or hydrogen powered 7 series Limo for show purposes? Kind of how they made a MINI Limo for the Turin Olympics? Hmm, there is another Olympics coming soon too.

plien69 Jun 17th, 2008 Link

About the Limousine tag. In this context, I don’t think it means what we think it means here in the US: namely a chauffeur-driven extended vehicle.

In German, limousine means sedan, as opposed to coupe or touring:

I think it’s their clean diesel line - a pamphlet of 335d was included in my monthly billing…

About BimmerFile

BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.

We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.

In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
