NEWS FLASH:2009 MY held until 10/13.

We have been hearing for the past several days that deliveries for 2009 3 series cars are being moved back until October 13th. The original info we had received was for European Delivery cars but what we are hearing now is that it is across the board. All 3ers are affected and not just the E90. This has to do with EPA requirements for re-certification. Production of German made cars will begin in September; October for Roslyn builds. Also, worth noting is that with the option of the front park distance control on the E90 it will need to be re-crash certified as well. There are other rumors circulating as to the reasons for this and as always we will bring you the facts as soon as we can! At this time we are also not sure if other models are affected.

Doesn’t that correspond to the Paris Auto Show where the E90 LCI is supposed to be shown to the public?

Larry Jun 25th, 2008 Link

Maybe it has do do with the HPFP failures or the turbo lag with the new DME?

When is the MY2009 ordering guide going to be posted? I have an ‘08 and an ‘09 335i on order. Right now on my ‘09 build sheet everything on the price side of the sheet says BLOCKED.

Dan,

No word on pricing and I am sure they will wait as long as they can with the current state of our economy. I would expect a modest bump over the normal 2-3%. Considering steel is going through the roof right now each car is costing almost $1k more to built just in steel we have been told, not to mention fuel for transporting and the cost of other materials.

Does this mean Sept production is delayed til Oct, or just postponed delivery of Sept cars? I have a first week of Sept production E90 M3 on order. thanks.

Michael Jun 30th, 2008 Link

Production will commence in Sept for German built cars and October for Roslyn built cars.

The delivery date is what has been moved.

Is your //M3 a coupe or sedan? The sedan should see the new rear and interior tweaks while the coupe will remain as is.

How would one order the ‘09 335? my lease is due in September. Will I be able to prolong the lease if they delay the production?

Michael Jun 30th, 2008 Link

You can order a 2009 now. You can extend your current lease through BMWFS until you new car comes in, you just have to present them with the production number/vin and they will extend it monthly as needed.

Production is not delayed, delivery dates will be.

Sorry guys, but I have to ask as I am confused about the timing.

If ordering a 2009 335i Sedan for the USA (and NOT doing Euro Delivery), which should the cars start production, and when would they be available for pickup at the dealer on the West Coast?

Michael Jul 5th, 2008 Link

The earliest US delivery will be 10/13/08.

bsd107 Jul 6th, 2008 Link

Can you please define what “delivery” means? Does this mean the car can be made at the factory, shipped by boat the US, and sit on the dealer’s lot, only to be released to the customer on 10/13/08? Or will they be held at the BMW port prep area (e.g. Long Beach, California) until 10/13/08? Or does this mean they won’t be put on the boat until 10/13/08?

Also, are the E90 335i Sedans for the US built in Germany or Roslyn?

Thanks again for your help

Michael Jul 6th, 2008 Link

Delivery is delivered to the customer; as in the earliest date. They will not be released from the VDC prior to then or be allowed for transport to a dealership because the cars will not be certified by the US until then. So if you live by the VDC and your car is in the front of the line you will get your car then other wise it is anyones guess.

bsd107 Jul 6th, 2008 Link

Is the major VDC for the US West Coast in Long Beach?

Michael Jul 6th, 2008 Link

BSD107: The West Coast the VDC is located near Oxnard at Port Hueneme. Is there a reason you are so concerned about the exact date; maybe we can help sort something out.

Thanks for the help - It’s been 9 years since I’ve done this, so trying to get back up to speed on the terminology (”delivery”, “VDC”, etc). I hear things like 8-10 weeks being required to get a car from German factory to US dealer, which is why I wanted to fully understand what exactly “10/13 delivery” meant - apparently it means release from the VDC….

bsd107 Jul 6th, 2008 Link

To be clear, I’m looking to order a 335i LCI sedan, that’s why the particular interest in timing to US West Coast dealerships…

michael,
do you have any information regarding australian delivered E92 335’s?
I have had one on order since May and have been told its being built in september and delivered in October.

Are there specific questions I should ask the dealer, build codes/lots/ etc??

If I have to delay a month to get an 09, i will…

Thanks

About BimmerFile

BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.

We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.

In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
