2009 7 Series: Design Analysis & Introduction (official video)

If you wanted to see every detail both inside and out of the new BMW 7 Series, we’ve got your video. BMW has released a collection of various videos of the car driving, sitting and being talked about by head of BMW design Adrian Van Hooydonk. We’ve taken the time to piece them all together into something a little more coherent than just separate videos so you don’t have to wade through video after video. You can just grab a beverage and sit back and enjoy all that is the new BMW 7 Series.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Very cool to watch. Overall, I like this 7-series. It is different than the current model but not dramatically - at least on the outside. It looks more like a 7-series than not at least. I really, really love the long hood line. The rear-end, not so sure. The “bigger model” definitely looks reminiscent of a Lexus LS. I’ve noticed that in the past and it still strikes me.

The interior looks fantastic. I love how “supple” they’ve made it. Really looks good. The back seat is GINORMOUS! A small family could live back there!

The new iDrive system looks really nice. Every version, from what I’ve seen/read about, gets better and better. I also like the fact - correct me if I’m wrong - that the latest and greatest technologies launch in the flagship model and over time trickles down into smaller/lesser models as it gets more refined, more requested, more accepted and more affordable to produce over multiple model lines?

Curious how much one truly notices the different “sport” and “comfort” modes. Interesting.

Lastly, some fabulous roads they were shooting/driving on. They look like lots of fun! Presumably they’re in Germany somewhere?

Anyways, thanks again. Great post. Fun way to wake up this Sunday morning while my addiction, errr, coffee kicks in. :)

Gabe nice work!

GSK- Many of the driving shots were actually filmed in Australia! (So I was told some months ago)

All in all it is a very conservative looking model which means that once again the 5er is going to be the model that takes a giant leap in design..

Wow, I thought I hated the way it looked when I 1st saw the pictures but damn it looks so good in motion. I’m still given a weird sense when looking at it on pictures but these videos really do the car some justice.

That interior is amazing and I can’t wait to see how they integrate into models, esp. the 3 & the 5 as one of them will definitely be my next car (335i currently) but BMW still has me as a loyal customer, just don’t mess up the 5 series as I’ll be very livid!

Great looking car. But I notice that this is the diesel model. Am I correct? Do you have anything on the 7 il model for the US? When will new model be available in the US? I am looking at the 2009 model sometime this fall or early winter.

Thanks

Very very nice looking car. It will age a lot better than the E65/66. I’d love to own one but this is a car for a much older crowd than the one I belong to.

While the rear tail light shape and chrome line leave room for editing in the near future and the front lights and grille don’t exactly match in style (though mimic the CS concept), the overall shape of the vehicle is quite dynamic and shows the speed of the car. Compared to the concrete slab style of the current 7, this is more of a bullet.

So long waited this moment. Came only disillusionment. Mr. Bangel has probably getted old.

About BimmerFile

BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.

We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.

In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
