BMW 2009 650i Sport

It looks like the BMW 650i will receive a more aggressive Sport Package (at least in the EU) similar to what is currently done with the 550i. This secondary refresh improves some of the controversial styling of the original look of the car and will be available for the coupe and convertible.

This Sport package includes an ///M tuned sports suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, an exhaust system with more of a sporty sound and tailpipes in dark chrome. The newly contoured hood (similar to the look of the refreshed 3er) will lose the “mustache” above the kidney grills, and also add glossy “shadowline” trim around the windows. It is about time that the dirty upper lip was removed from the hood!

On the interior there will be more supportive sport seats, an M leather steering wheel, interior trim strips in aluminum, and an anthracite headliner.

Oh and last but not least: There appears to be the new iDrive. We have received conflicting information on the subject of whether the 5/6 will be getting the new system or not, but for the mean time lets just say at least this car for the photo shoot had the new system in it!

While this does create a more sporty appearance for the aging 6er it is not overly aggressive and does not really scream “sport” as the implementation of this package does on the 550i. What do you think?

With the 550i Sport, you got, for the US, the 550i M Sport with a very M5-esque aerodynamic kit. This 650i Sport brings almost nothing from the M6. As such, I am sure that the new sport package will be an improvement on the outgoing version, but in a very minor way.

Oh, and I do not approve of BMW copying Audi’s wheel design.

Eliot, I completely agree that this is a much more subtle look than the 550 sport (one of my favorite current BMW models). The 6 has never been sporty enough in my opinion and even with the “sport” pack it is not.

With the exception of the headrests, those front seats look identical to the sport seats that were part of the Sport Package available on the E38 740i from 1999-2001 here in the U.S.

About BimmerFile

BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.

We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.

In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
