This just in from CNN:
The German automaker says the recall involves the 2006 3 Series, the 2004-2006 5 Series, and the 2004-2006 X3 compact sport utility vehicle.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a posting on its Web site Wednesday that small cracks could develop in a seat detection mat and lead to the front passenger air bags to be deactivated.
It would also turn on the passenger air bag “on-off” light. NHTSA says the head protection system would not be affected.

How can this simply and singularly only affect the passenger seat and airbag on one car in this recall; the first year of the E90? I am 5′9″ tall and weigh 155lbs. When my stopped (sport package) 2006 330i sedan with 8k miles was rear ended by an old Ford Pick up truck going approximately 50mph, BMW Assist was immediately on the car’s satellite sound system! Nice to be sure, however I really wish some airbags would have deployed, especially when the unibody was so badly compressed, along with my spinal cord! So it is just the passenger seat, Eh?
