Just noticed that the BMW USA web site is back to showing the “old” iDrive in the Build Your Own configurator. I am still expecting the new, CIC-based, iDrive in March production cars as MY2010 cars, the last for the E60. Next Spring, in 2010, I expect new F10 5-Series cars as MY2011 cars in the U.S.

DIS- I am hearing a variety of stories on the X5/ X6- some state the new iDrive will be there this spring, others in the fall. I am not sure what the current inventory of those models is in the EU and that may very well dictate when the change takes place, we know it is going to happen.

Michael, Do you have any news, regarding new idrive for X6 in Europe? There is still no German pricelist available for X5 and X6 – for all other models they are. Thanks.

Michael- Thank you very much for the reply! If they do change the rear lights I can change them later if I decide to go with the 09 which it looks like thats what im going to do as of now. Im planning to have the car by this summer so the 2009 will work out. Probably by them there will be more info on the 2010 M3. If the changes are drastic then I will wait for the 2010, If not Ill just go ahead and get the 2009, Thats what Im thinking will happen. As a E46 M3 owner, I changed the rear lights to the LED’s when BMW changed them on the 05′s… I have a 2003 E46 M3 so they did not come with LED’s and the change was easy. I hope they only change the lights and not the trunk and the physical lights like the E90. Hopefully it will be an easy change if I go end up with the 2009! I also heard they might bring back Imola Red Interior. That is what I have in my E46 M3 with Alpine White Exterior. Im planning on going with the same setup. BY Summer If I hear they are for sure bringing Imola Red back with other drastic Changes, then I will for sure wait! Lets see what happens!

Jack- The E92 LCI information is being held tight to the chest by BMW, we have yet to even sneak a peak at some spy shots.

The 2010 is not going to be all that different than the current car aside from a rear light change. The front lights are a bit of an issue considering the E90 shares the front as well, so that means the E90 would have undergone 2 cosmetic changes already, not sure if BMW will do that.

Dealers can technically take orders whenever but they can not put them into the system until the car becomes available, in other words build slots. Usually this occurs about 3 months out but can vary. The 2010 ///M cars will not hit showrooms until the fall so your order will be placed sometime in June or July.

The biggest issue you may run into is pricing and lease/finance numbers. BMW always gets a premium the first run of a model, so if the changes are minimal more bang for the buck may be in a 2009, not sure if new lights are worth $6-$7k.

Irv, thanks for the input.. Helps sort some of this out. Sometimes the difficulty we find is that each locale receives different things at different times. So it may be fair to say the US will not get the new iDrive in the X5 or X6 now but the EU still may. The 5/6 are go for all markets and it will be the E60.

As a Person Waiting to purchase the 2010 Model E92 M3, When is a realistic time frame I can expect the 2010 M3 to be available for me to order and have it at the dealer?? My sales person has my order sheet and is holding it untill the 2010's are available to put in the order and he is telling me November of 2009 the car will be in. Now I know it can't be that far out..

Would anyone know when BMW will take orders for the 2010 M3? I'm guessing MAY of 2009 and the physical car will be at the deal if I order it in MAY 2009, August or September?! Would this be correct??

Can anyone give me some Info on this? I'm hoping to get the car in the summer but I know it won't be available that soon. I'm guessing August or September.

Would anyone also know what changes 2010 will bring to the 2010 model M3? I'm guessing LCI New rear LED Tails and new Exterior/Interior Colors.

Any Help would be appriciated!!

the 5 series will be released in March,’09 as a my 2010,the new body will follow one year later,March 2010 as a my 2011,watch for the 550xdrive coming out as well…..the X5 & X6 will get the new Nav in fall of 2009 as a my 2010

I dont think there will be a 555i of the next generation. Isnt the new M5/X6M/X5M just a reworked TTV8 from the 7series and X6? The M5 just wouldnt be unique IMO.

If this were to be true, we would have seen more and clearer spyshots of the new 5er. And we haven't. Yet.

I think this will be the X-factor year.

What we have seen over the last days are the X5 and X6 M variants with barely any disguise. Which tells me that we are not far off of the unveiling of the thing. Seeing as Geneva is in March, I'm betting an X5/6 M debut in March. Which would be a nice time to introduce the new iDrive in the x5/6. So, in that sense, the iDrive story for the X5/6 would be a likely one.

An unveiling of the X3 by this fall would also be a likely story. They've got a production gap at the Spartanburg plant, now that the Z4 production moved to Europe, to get manufacturing efficiency in the plant back to order the X3 would be a welcome one. Shanghai autoshow reveal in April maybe? A crucial market in the years ahead for BMW.

I wouldn't be surprised if the production model X1 was planned for IAA Frankfurt. Built in Germany, reveal in Germany. The X1 is also more oriented for the European market.

Also the fact that journalists already drove a prototype or preproduction model in Norway (was it?), tells me that an unveiling wil be sooner rather than later.

Maybe the PAS or 5 GT concept in September on the IAA as well? Release early 2010. Would be a nice prelude for the unveiling of the 5er F10.

But hey! That's just my two cents.

5- I tend to agree with you on this one, but thought we should offer up some commentary

Looks like the 5/6 and X5/X6 will see the CIC based iDrive hit the US this Spring.

A welcomed sight to many I am sure…

Now lets see what BMW offers up as an incentive to move those cars with the old system!

MY 2010 will be an E60 with new iDrive and I suppose the M-Sport package for 528/535s (not the 550). The new iDrive (CIC) is already on the BMW web site so if I bought a brand spanking new 5er today (January build) I would expect it now but the web site has been wrong before. However I believe new production 5ers being delivered in Europe right now have the new iDrive.

When the F10 deputs in the US in calendar year 2010 as a MY 2011 there will be a 550i with the same V8 Twin Turbo as the F01 7-Series 750i. Thus it will not be called a 555i. Registering names is as much a defensive move as one that indicates an actual model by that name.

I really doubt the F10 would be released early. I think BMW's supply chain isn't that agile (whose is?) and I think they recognize the need to preserve quality over a speculative marketing opportunity.

Now, I hope the above is all wrong. That there will be an E60 555i with the V8 Twin Turbo. We'll find out for sure in the next couple of weeks as any March changes should be announced before the end of the month (if history is any judge).

It makes no sense to me that BMW would introduce the F10 for 2010. That would mean they only get two model years out of the facelift on the E60. A 2011 introduction of the F10 gives them three years of the E60 facelift and it follows their most common seven year model interval.

I just read a post on Bimmerfest where a customer was just told 2009 MY production has ended and 2010 MY production will begin around the end of February/beginning of March; still as the E60, but with the new I-Drive and ARS standard. This fits what BMW indicated earlier, that the E60 would get the new I-Drive in spring of 2009.

Several sources stated new iDrive X5, X6 os coming March 09. If BMW does it for September, the year is over and they did not push a lot for greater worldwide market share – quite the contrary. They will badly disappoint BMW customers or potential customers and loose image.

The F10 should have a 555i option and feature the V8 twin turbo of the X6, that is not a doubt. The age of naturally aspirated motors has come to an end.

The past summers gas crisis slowed a lot of the higher output offerings, with the focus on "Green".
