yeah, I mean that's what the X M models could have been. I'm sure the production models are still going to be great, really expensive tanks...just would have been cool to see something a little out of the box from BMW with these machines. Instead of forcing great road dynamics onto these behemoths how about making them some of the best off-road racing machines available?

So I should think of the X5/6 M’s charging along though the Dakar rally. Would have to say that while yes the support car makes sense, however I can assure you that M built these cars for fetching groceries and children at warp speed rather than charging through Dakar.

JonPD — I think the common ground between the M division and the SAV’s could have been achieved by creating road-going versions of the Dakar rally X’s.

Big shock here but although I admit I am not a SUV fan, I have no core objections with these developments. I do wonder though how it will change the perception about the M Division however. I am sure these vehicles will perform better than their size and weight should allow. Still not sure how Motorsports and SAV's have any common ground, but that's just me.

I understand BMW's attempt to create new markets and new customer's, but this is taking their limited resources away from the type of car I would like to purchase and own (smaller, lighter weight, one that engages the driver more than the car's electronics).

It undoubtably would have been an interesting halo vehicle if the world hadn't turned upside down in the last months.

Before the hate parade comes marching in…

The X ///M’s make perfect (business) sense, M sales in general have been steady. It’s only logical, these will appeal to the performance suv enthusiasts and will appeal to old and new consumers. They will meet and exceed their bottom line (bottom line). Throw in “new technology”, tow capability, and 0-100km in 4.5 seconds…hell, count me in.
