BMW X1 Official Photos Leaked

As is customary with these kind of launches, someone somewhere has leaked all the launch pics of the BMW X1 before the embargo was to break later this week. There’s not much to say that hasn’t been said about the X1. The E84 1 series based crossover is almost the same size as the current X3 on the exterior and has a little less interior and cargo room.

The X1 will launch with two base models the xDrive18i and xDrive18d. Additionally expect the xDrive20d (177hp), the xDrive23d (204hp) and finally the xDrive28i. All will launch with xDrive following within a year with rear wheel drive sDrive models. The US launch should happen late next year with different engine offerings.

Look for a full press release soon.

I like the look of the X1 from most angles…the interior, with the apparent 1er-inspired dash, looks good….rear 3/4 view looks good, good rear end, nice profile…but for me, I think the front end, and the front 3/4 view, is awful…..and ugly. I like the exterior look of the Volvo XC60 much better.

I love it. Now I sure hope they have available the very fuel effecient diesel engines in the US. I will highly consider getting one if the diesel engines are an option.

  • Dusty S

My mistake – I see the diesel will be an option. For some reason the whole article didn’t show. Great.. Now I’m really anxious to see it.

I agree RJ, once again, the front end is a disaster.

I like it, quite a bit. The lines are plenty aggressive and the interior appears to be well built with judicious use of high-quality materials. It looks to be small enough, although it doesn’t quite jive with my small-car ethos. My wife, however, would be plenty pleased. Given her recent romance with a Lexus RX330 loaner left her with an appreciation for this style of vehicle, although she did miss minor things like feel and control. As a burgeoning urban family-man the X1 definitely deserves a look.

Give us the xDrive23d and I’d reckon it would do really well. Looks funky and gives the impression, to me at least, that this is a car you could actually use in a lot of situations.

I am curious: Is the X1 the size of the current X3, will the next X3 be the size of the original X5 and will the next X5 be the size of a Hummer soon?

  • Ben

I like it alot. Especially the white one. Looking forward to seeing in person.

  • Hunter

I really do like it a lot. I thought that I was going to be disappointed, but that’s not the case. Love the second interior, and the bronzy-brown exterior color is interesting.

Whatever, I’d hit it. Interesting about the X1 is that it is suppose to attract younger buyers to the BMW brand. The avg. BMW consumer is somewhere around 48. If they want to be successful in the fulfillment of that goal this car will HAVE to be priced accordingly to be within reach of this “younger” crowd. Just below $30k would seem appropriate if not slightly over. As a newly college grad I think this is something I can look forward to owning in another four years….if it’s priced right.

meh. looks like a tribeca in the rear and a Pontiac-like disaster in the front. it would have been better to just upscale the 1 series 5 door hatch a bit and added xDrive. i like the metallic brown color though.

  • Chris B.

Oops. After a little thought the price point for a USDM X1 should actually be a little higher than first suggestion. Since the MINI SAV will sit in the around $28k price bracket the X1 should start somewhere around or a little beneath $35k. Though at that point I believe the X1 will move away slightly from its intended audience. We’ll see soon enough.

Why is the front end a disaster? It looks fine to me. The entire exterior looks good. I do kind of get a G37 vibe from the rear lights. I like the seats on the first set of interior pics. Why did they put the AUX/USB ports on the dash? I like having my ipod and wiring hidden in the center console.

About BimmerFile

BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.

We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.

In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
