Tonight BMWNA announced price bumps across the lineup. This is nothing new, it is somewhat of a BMW tradition to ring in the New Year with a less than one percent increase. This time it is a .4% increase per vehicle. Destination and handling was also increased but by a flat rate of $50 per vehicle. The newly launched 5 GT, and Active Hybrids will not see the MSRP price increase but will still suffer the inflated shipping charge.

We are categorizing this as a rumor for the time being as it is unconfirmed. We felt that it was too juicy to push to the side and this information has some merit to it, it is not just someone guessing. We have heard from a reliable source that BMWNA is considering bringing the 740i to the US market this spring as 2011 model. This same source indicates that several other models will be introduced at that time as well. The other launches we were tipped to include the 3 Series coupe and convertible Life Cycle Impulse (facelift) equipped with an 8 Speed transmission in addition to cosmetic upgrades. We as always will keep you up to date as we hear more.

Official Release: BMW’s groundbreaking 3.0-liter Advanced Diesel engine has again been named one of Ward’s 10 Best Engines. For the 2010 model year and the second year in a row, BMW’s sequential twin-turbo inline-6 diesel engine was elected to the 10 Best Engines list by the Ward’s AutoWorld panel of expert judges. To win a place on the 10 Best Engines list, an engine must score highly in measures of horsepower, torque, refinement, technical relevance, and comparative data.
“BMW’s EfficientDynamics strategy is focused on building greener, more fuel efficient engines without sacrificing performance. The goal was to create the most sophisticated diesel engine in the world. The re-election of BMW’s Advanced Diesel engine to the Ward’s 10 Best Engines list validates our team’s accomplishment,” said Hans Hohenner, General Manager of Drivetrain Development for BMW Group. “The 335d Sedan demonstrates that BMW vehicles have never been more environmentally friendly and very much proves that The Ultimate Driving Machine is alive and well.”

The 2010 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo presents itself as an SUV that is not an SUV, a sport wagon that is not a sport wagon, a sedan that is not a sedan and lastly a coupe that is not a coupe. If it is none of those things, then what is it? That is the question a lot of people ask and there is no clear answer; it is a little bit of all of them and nothing like anything that has come before.
A different kind of car deserves a different type of review. That is exactly what we have done here at BimmerFile. For our first take on the new 2010 BMW 5 Series GT we decided to complete a review from different perspectives: from the driver, the passenger to casual onlookers and even the enthusiast. We are letting it loose tonight, the eve of the US on sale date! Read on and you’ll see what we have been working on along with the full photo set. As always we would love to hear your comments on this latest of controversial vehicles from BMW.
