With the official public debut of the 335is upon us we decided to use this opportunity to go through our files and give you a glimpse at the 335is at every possible angle. These shots are from the European press launch at the Estoril track in Spain earlier this year. However there is on caveat to these photos. The final 335is will not have foglights (a la the M3). Enjoy.

The Chinese love their longwheel base sedans. With many Chinese businessmen being driven rather than driving themselves a longer wheelbase is essential in what has become arguably the world’s largest car market. So much so that BMW has just launched it’s second generation of long wheelbase 5er exclusively for the Chinese market. Differences are rather minimal outside of the 5.5″ of extra legroom. However there are a few options usually reserved for the 7 Series seen in the 5 Series for the first time.
Press Release: World premiere of the new long-wheelbase BMW 5 Series Sedan: Developed and built exclusively for the Chinese car market, this truly exclusive sedan sets new standards in aesthetics, driving pleasure and comfort in the premium business sedan segment. Through its sporting but elegant design, the new long-wheelbase BMW 5 Series Sedan is truly impressive from every angle, pampering particularly the passengers at the rear with luxury class space and innovative features also typical of the luxury class.
New straight-six power units and a wide range of BMW EfficientDynamics technologies ensure superior sportiness combined with trendsetting efficiency. Sophisticated suspension technology ensures significant progress both in driving comfort and dynamic handling. The new long-wheelbase BMW 5 Series Sedan is built at BMW’s plant in Shenyang in cooperation with a large number of regional partners.
Recently BMW Technik celebrated its 25th anniversary by rolling out a few rarely seen concepts and one that has (up until now) only been rumored, the Z29. The two door coupe is the very concept that several publications reported on around the 2000 time-frame. At the time there was talk of a small two door concept with liberal use of carbon fiber and innovative use of reinforced plastics deep within the confines of BMW’s Munich HQ. That was this car and this is it’s story.
The Z29 never reached production but that doesn’t mean it’s not one of the most important BMW’s of the past 15 years. The ideas, engineering and design technics have informed many BMW product since (and some we haven’t seen yet).
The key stat of the Z29 was clearly the weight. At 2560 pounds the Z29 had a staggering power to weight ratio of 7.46 hp/lbs. That of course is thanks to the S54 E46 M3 inline six under the hood producing 343 hp. That ratio is not only dramatically more than any other BMW currently in production but on the level of some supercars.
Britain’s Autocar is reporting that the M6 as we know it (a high performance petrol powered M coupe) will not be replaced when the current car goes offline late this year. In its place will be the production version of the Vision Concept with an as yet undetermined engine. On one hand you have the three cylinder turbo charged (potentially using three turbos) diesel with a electric hybrid engine that the Vision Concept had under the hood. Then again M could decide to use a version of the 4.4L twin turbo V8 in the upcoming M5 and BMW could use the three cylinder turbo diesel for the 1 and 3 products.
We’re not entirely sure this line of thinking is accurate. For instance why would BMW not leverage an existing engine (designed for the M5) in an existing chasis (the new 6er) and charge upwards of 100k for it?
Hello opposite lock. This is the first lap of the BMW Z4 GT3 at the Nürburgring Nordschleife (as driven by Richarad Göransson for the Schubert Motorsport Team).
BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.
We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
