New 3 Series Leaked? We Think Not.

Photoshop of F30 from Automobile.fr

The French automotive site aptly named Automobile.fr has what they claim are leaked CG image of the next generation F30 3 Series. While there is some interesting validatey in the design of the CG images, we are relatively skeptical based on the site’s track record. For those of who read MotoringFile, you may remember very similar “leaked” CG images of the next generation MINI. All it too was a few minutes of investigating before we realized that they simply photoshopped a previous interior image and passed it off as a the unreleased car. We even went straight to the source at MINI who would know such things, Head of MINI Design Gert Hildebrand, and asked him about the renderings. His immediate response was that they are nothing from his team and their studio.

So with that track record we can’t help but be a little skeptical. Now with that said they are interesting and we do like the BMW CS Concept inspired look. But we also can’t help but notice a few discrepancies. For starters the car looks noticeably smaller than we’d expect. There is little rear overhang and even the mirrors are smaller than the current cars (which were recently made larger due to European Union regulations).

Based on everything we’d have to say the front renderings is slightly more believable but even that seems a little far fetched as the face of BMW’s new top selling product. You’d expect a little more conservatism when it comes to the bread and butter than is the 3 Series. At the end of the day we believe these are fakes.

But let’s hear your thoughts. Fake or real? Sound off below…

The first image looks as if it has been manipulated by the video images of the first design prototype of the GT as shown in the clinic in the first part of the making of the BMW 5er Gran Turismo. Whilst the second looks suspiciously like the first design model the 5er GT designer Christopher Weil is working on also in that film.

It is clear that they are working from inside information such as the lower front and faired in headlights , although these resemble more the F20 1er than the F30 3er, but there are simularities to the front vents and the swooping character line down the side of the car. The real thing does not have a stubby bootlid though.

Herr 26- Thanks for the clarification! To me the rear looks very off when compared to the “spy” photos we have been seeing. I also see the greenhouse as too upright and not raked towards the rear enough. I would imagine to see more VED Concept front (lights etc. like the new X3) than the CS.

Wow….Lets hope these are fake and not close to reality because it looks to me like BMW will be sharing platforms with an Evo

About BimmerFile

BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.

We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.

In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
