A Closer Look: The 1M at the BMW Welt

Longtime reader Michael Talley managed to get down to the BMW Welt yesterday and get some detailed shots of the 1M as it sits at the Welt. The plan is to unveil a bit more before the full debut just before Christmas. The official public debut will be at the Detroit Autoshow. (Full gallery after the break)

BMW 1M: Driven By 12 Lucky Contest Winners

Let’s start with a couple things that these 12 lucky people had to say about driving the 1M:

• “Absolutely incredible”
• “The motor sounds awesome”
• “The car was fixed to the road”

Ok so they loved it (as you can see in the video above). But as you’d expect the reactions are from giddy fans and not seasoned writers or even seasoned BMW enthusiasts. So what can we really tell from this video?

• The sound as gotten better (:56)
• The interior looks great with the new gauges (1:49)
• The M button makes the “horse become a beast” – yeah broken english but you get the point (2:15)
• M has added a more defined rear spoiler as seen under the tarp (2:49)

• Everybody seems to agree it looks fantastic uncovered.

BMW 1M: No Carbon Fiber Roof Confirmed

We reported (somewhat controversially) a few months back that the 1M would not feature anything other than trim based carbon fiber. Specially we said that this meant no carbon roof as had been rumored for well over a year. Today we see the confirmation of that.

BMW Partners with Steinway & Sons on Special Edition 7 Series

BMW Individual has partnered with the famed German piano maker Steinway to create a special edition BMW 7 Series. The car is based on the ActiveHybrid 7 model and is created with BMW’s Individual. Exclusively in white or black it is perhaps the most elegant F01 7er to date.

BMW N55 Engine Gets a Performance Boost

BMW launched the 650i convertible this week to much fanfare. Hidden away was the inline six 640i, the less powerful and more efficient offering that will launch initially in only the EU market. There is no timetable on a North American launch but if the recent introduction of the 740i is any indicator, it will be at least a year before we see it in the US.
