BMW 1M US Options & Ordering Information

With photos and details of the 1M out, our (and many of your) thoughts turn to pricing and specifications. Across the globe BMW will offer the same limited range of options with only standard equipment varying slightly. It ‘s all in an effort to keep costs down and the 1M as focused as possible. And more than anywhere that is true of the US market. We ‘ve managed to gather information around the standard and optional equipment list as well as the two packages BMW plans on offering. And perhaps more importantly the first date for order: December 20th.

Interior Spec

As expected the US 1 Series M Coupe features black Boston Leather sport seats with contrasting orange stitching as the only option. Furthering the motorsport look anthracite Alcantara covers the doors, instrument binnacle, dashboard strip, and lower console boots (also with orange contrasting stitching). The dark-themed materials perfectly fit the M tradition of providing the driver with a low-glare, all- business cockpit. Rounding out the interior are a new M instrument cluster, M steering wheel, driver footrest, entry sills, and shifter knob (which is taken directly from the E46 ZHP).

Exterior Spec

This is easy. The 1M comes in three colors: Valencia Orange Metallic (launch color), Black Sapphire Metallic, and the (very) classic Alpine White. The 19 ” Competition package wheels are standard. Otherwise there are no exterior options from the factory.

Standard Equipment and Options

The US market will feature Xenon Adaptive headlights, automatic climate, and hi-fi sound system among other standard equipment.

Beyond that BMW NA will be offering two packages on the 1M; Convenience and Premium. One nugget we ‘ve learned is that Navigation will be offered within the Convenience package. We ‘ll know more about the options within each soon.

Other than that the only option in the US will be heated seats.

Expect final details on each of the packages on the 20th when ordering guides hit US dealers. And yes if you ‘re on a list that would be a good time to firm up your order and confirm your spot in line as the BMW Order Bank will be opening that day for the 1M.

  • Concerning options for the 1 M: the writer leaves the impression that every available option on the 1 M brochure (which is posted on the BMW USA Website for downloading) is not available, and that Convenience and Premium Packages are available; however, there are no such packages on the official 1 M brochure. I went to my dealer on Thursday and ticked off the options I wanted, working off the 1 M brochure. Granted, he was moving around a bit in the dark because I had to tell him where to download the 1 M brochure. I suspect all this will be resolved on 20 December. I am doing the Euro Delivery and I believe the “official” order will be allowed on Monday.

    • The EU guide is not accurate and the info we have had does not correlate.

      Premium

      Convenience

      Heated seats

Are basically it as it should be as this car is meant to be more back to basics.

  • That’s the generic EU brochure. The US ordering guide won’t be out to dealers until 8am Monday

  • So, let me get this straight: BMW spends big bucks to design and produce a an elaborate brochure on their new M and, right after it comes out, the whole thing is not accurate? Hard to believe, even though to err is human. For a large corporation, “not accurate” somehow does not stand up to the image of BMW.

Anyway … Monday we find out the real deal. Am curious to know what’s included in the Premium and Convenience packages. I spoke to my client rep today and he said, “Don’t believe anything you see, read or hear about the new M until it comes from the dealer.” So, seeing is believing.

    • Vince- good idea, listen to the dealer as they are always right. Some are better than others (a few are great) but you should know by now that they are in the business of selling cars and not always knowing the product.

We named the colors, talked about the drive train, no CF roof and everything else many months in advance but for some reason we are going to be all wrong about the options?

The US market is always different and that is why we often refrain from using international materials. The 1M brochure was so well done we posted it, but by no means is it accurate for the US- just as the EU HP does not correlate directly.

Monday things go live but you will have until March to spec the build anyways, the cutoff is 6 days before the build when changes are accepted.

The wait is going to be long but well worth it in the end! From sources close to this car it is what M has been trying to get back to and what we enthusiasts want.

      Prost!

The brochure (which is really well done) is meant for the EU market and not for the US. While most of it applies (the car is the same of course) the way the options will be offered will be different.
