According to 1Addicts and BMW insider Scott26, Autobilde has leaked the 2012 F20 1 Series. At this point we know nothing more than what we see above. Is this real? While it’s relatively low quality and highly processed it does look eerily similar to BMW”s launch photography for other recent models. It also looks spot-on based on our knowledge of the car. However we have no confirmation of what this really is.
A Perfect Match is a short film made by BMW Classic. The film is all about Jack and his weird search for a suitable replacement for the BMW 1602. The first advance laurels were already awarded at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards towards the end of 2010. A Perfect Match was awarded the Golden Dolphin in the Corporate Films category.
The film is available now if you go to www.bimmerstories.la and www.bmw-classic.com
Official Release: Waiting times averaged around half an hour. That‟s how long you had to queue up at the 1961 Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) to get a close-up look at the star turn of the show – or indeed to sit inside it, if for no more than a hurried minute. “Anyone who was in the vast exhibition area, for whatever reason, felt drawn to the stand of the Bayerische Motoren Werke,” noted reporters from a leading German magazine, “or to be precise, to the new BMW mid-range car which until then had been a closely guarded internal secret but was now on public view for the first time at the BMW stand.”
If you’re lucky enough to be ordering a June production 1M Coupe and had the chance to pick it up in Europe, we’d highly recommend you schedule your time at the BMW Welt in Munich during the second to last week of June.
BMW M has just announced an event like none other that sounds like the ULTIMATE European Delivery event. M-Fest is essentially four days of ///M Power staged around the 24 hours of the ‘Ring. Exclusive access and information about ///M and the BMW Motorsport team, something that all of us enthusiasts should get excited over.
Having completed a bunch of these Euro Delivery trips already it really takes something special to get me excited to the ‘Mth’ degree and what I’m thinking just does that. Arrive on a Tuesday (airfare usually is a bit less) and pickup the object of your affection, notably the 1M (or any BMW), at the Welt. Take in the museum and the much commercialized factory tour followed by a night of biergartens. Wake up after a nice rest at one of Munich’s fine hotels to make the 30 min drive to Garching. The goal is to take a photo (or if pre-arranged thanks to connections- a tour) of ///M headquarters. The sign and the new car in one photo would quickly make it to my office wall, beneath the picture of my dream E61 ///M5.
After that I would high tail it towards the ‘Ring and take in a few laps at a slow pace (after all it’s not broken in yet). If there’s time or if the course is open, I’d include stopping by some of the other German car museums along the way.
Then from there I’d proceed to have the time of my life at M-Fest and the 24 hours of the ‘Ring (detailed below).
Afterwards I’d drop the car in Frankfurt, fly home and start the agonizing wait with photos and memories that are bound to last a lifetime.
You want to watch the new F10 M5 test mule roam the snowy Alps? Great we’ve got that, 30 minutes of that in fact. So find a comfortable seat, sit back and enjoy.
As BMW gets ready to unveil it’s 6th generation 3 Series it’s allowing us to take a look back with a thorough recounting (from their prospective) of each generation.
Official Release: If there is such a thing as a typical BMW, then it is without a doubt the BMW 3 Series. In the medium-size class it is considered the embodiment of the sports sedan and has maintained this leading role for many years unchallenged at the top of the premium segment. Since debuting in the year 1975, more than 12 million customers worldwide have purchased a BMW 3 Series, even though the car cannot be associated with any typical customer segment. So the reasons for this remarkable success are manifold.
Then as now, the BMW 3 Series concept was unique – a compact and elegant body design, modern and efficient engines, a classic rear-wheel drive concept and a sporty suspension setup. The result was a maximum degree of driving dynamics and agility. Moreover, BMW demonstrated a strong sense for the spirit of the time and the individual wishes of potential customers. This in turn resulted in innovative body concepts and additional technical features that competitors were unable to offer. In this respect as well, the BMW 3 Series was the first to set the benchmark in the midrange sports sedan segment. The latest examples of this are the measures implemented within the framework of BMW EfficientDynamics, thanks to which the BMW 3 Series achieves the lowest fuel consumption and emission levels in its class.
According to Focus.de (translated via the German blog Bimmertoday) the next generation M5 will not only be available with DCT but a manual transmission as well. However the manual will be meant for the US market only. Similar to the SMG and manual set-up for the E60, this arrangement is clearly meant for the old-school enthusiasts who buy M5s in the US.
Our take? While we love new technology (and DCT represents the best of that) there is something pure and simple in rowing your own gears.
BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.
We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
