The official M Brand website just published an interview with Dominique Gargiulo, head of marketing for M automobiles at BMW GmbH. It’s a quick interview that is full the details that we haven’t seen yet on the event.
Mr Gargiulo, “The M Festival” – what is it about?
Gargiulo: Fun and excitement, the smell of gasoline, the M Community. M – the most powerful letter in the world – invites all fans and drivers of M cars to the Nürburgring for four days of joint celebration.
After the controversial “Joy” campaign BMW is subtly returning to one of the most famous taglines in the Automotive industry. Yes “The Ultimate Driving Machine” is making a return in the latest BMW 5 Series ad. The ad itself (created by Grey) doesn’t feature anything particular interesting (a jet refueling a cup of coffee in mid-air thanks to CG isn’t our idea of playing to BMW’s strengths) but we are glad to see the change.
Since Autobild has a new rendering out on the forthcoming BMW Z2, figured it was as good a time as any to talk about the new baby roadster. Destined for 2014 production the Z2 will be based on the UKL platform that will underpin everything from the next generation MINIs to other fwd BMWs, the Z2 looks to slot in under the Z4 as a reinterpretation of the original Z3 – albeit with front wheel drive.
Official Release: BMW announced today that its South Carolina plant has increased its ranking to No. 4 on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Top 20 On-site Generation list of the largest green power users. In 2010, through BMW’s on-site landfill gas energy system, the company generated nearly 62 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of power. This represents about 37% of the company’s overall electricity use, the highest usage percentage of the EPA’s top 10 Green Power Partners. It also underscores the company’s decision to exchange the traditional sources of electricity generation in support of cleaner, renewable energy alternatives.
Official Release: BMW of North America announced today that the free Pandora® internet radio iPhone app, the first third party app approved for the new BMW Apps feature, is now live and available for download at www.itunes.com/appstore.
Beginning today, all MY 2011 and 2012 BMW vehicles equipped with the BMW Apps option will be able to stream Pandora internet radio through the iPhone app. Once the iPhone is connected to the vehicle, the Pandora personalized radio functions are operated by the vehicle’s existing controls. The Pandora integration, like the BMW Connected app features, is seamless.
CarMag recently tested the meanest looking M3 on the planet. This video shows just how well a slightly tweaked and aggressively styled M3 coupe does when the hammer is down.
This Frozen Black M3 was designed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of BMW in South Africa. A limited run of 25 units in matte black with red calipers and interior accents. The SA version also has some tweaks for tuning and the exhaust. In the end it is a black blur that screams.
Thanks for those that sent this in via Bimmerpost.
An interesting look at the newest BMW Concept car. BMW fans the world over can expect the next ///M5 super sedan to be very similar to this Concept when its final production form is released at M Fest in June. Subtle styling changes and production mirrors will be the only real difference outside the paint choice and wheels.
The European reviews of the 1M are trickling in this week and next up is the UK’s Autocar. And outside of the upcoming EVO review, this is the one we’ve been looking forward to more than any (other than our own coming in two weeks). So let’s get to it. Perhaps unsurprisingly (for those following previous reviews) Autocar loves the 1M. Here’s an excerpt:
It’s one of the best-looking M-cars in some time. Much effort has gone into modifying the 1-series coupé’s steel body to accommodate its upgraded chassis and give the M Coupé a much more muscular appearance than the 135i. In the metal, it looks bulldog tough.
BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.
We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
