F30 3 Series Takes Shape

Bimmerpost has the clearest look at at the 2013 F30 3 Series. Expected to debut on the interwebs late this year and publicly at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the F30 sedan will be the first next generation 3 Series to debut. The car will feature a wide range of engines. From three cylinder turbos (outside the US) to a 320 hp turbo inline six (the N55) the car will once again try to everything to everybody. In the US look for a 328i 240 hp four cylinder and a 320 hp 335i.

Along with the squared-off headlights and mirror mounted turn signals, a slightly more aggressive front and more taut rear will be define the look of the car. From a technology perspective we expect the F30 to be around the same weight or even less than the E90 due to the use of lightweight materials.

  • Wow. This F30 has to be within inches dimensionally to the E39 5 Series. The E90 itself wasn’t far off. Isn’t BMW considering a 1 Series Sedan? Looks like the next Gen 1 Series will capture the essence of the E30, E36, and somewhat E46 footprint. Times are changin!

This side of the pond speculation is still Frankfurt 2011 launch, whereas US sites are consistently saying Geneva 2012. Who is right?

The IAA Frankfurt will host the World Premiere of the new F20 BMW 1er which entered it’s launch window at the beginning of the month via http://www.2originals.com which will continue until early June and the full premiere.

The 3er is aiming for a launch around November which will coincide with the annoucement of BMW’s Sponsorship with the 2012 Olympics in London where the car is expected to debut before a public debut at Geneva in March 2012. The car you see currently is not ready for production as a lot of final work commences until the launch.
