Cresting the hill while heading east on Carmel Valley Road, the landscape suddenly went from dense forest to golden hills. It was as if I had entered a yellowing 70′s photo tinged with the promise of a simpler, better life. And with the thin and lively CSL steering wheel in my hands, I had it. A glimpse inside yesterday’s golden, carefree youth. Turn after turn the CSL wound up and down the rev range and the sounds brought it all to life.
Like the adoring fan who would be well advised to avoid meeting their hero, some boyhood dream-cars should never be driven by those who lusted after them. It’s a common reaction for excitement to turn to disappointment behind the wheel of a classic car. But the BMW 3.0 CSL is a different breed.

BMW has just released the first official US video of the new big coupe. The 6 Series will go on sale in September with the N55 equipped 640i and the muscular 650i V8. And a first for the 6, it’ll be available with xDrive in either model.
For the third year in a row Legends of the Autobahn has brought the Mercedes, Porsche and BMW clubs of America together for the ultimate enthusiast car show. What it lacks in panache and extravagance it makes up in sheer amount of rare German metal. Check it out after the break.
The past few days have been kind to us. We’ve spent time in the new Z4 4 cylinder, 1988 E28 M5, 1972 3.0 CSL and the 2012 650i coupe. As you can imagine reviews are coming of them all. But in the meantime we thought it appropriate to wet your appetite a bit with some photos of the past few days. Starting off with the new 650i.
Wonder what the first four cylinder to grace a BMW in the US for 14 years sounds like? Wonder no more. BMW NA has released its first video of the new Z4 carving the canyon roads of southern California.
We have closely followed BMW’s ALMS run since their first season racing the E92 ///M3 chassis. During these past 3 seasons we have been lucky enough to spend some time trackside at a handful of races and see live what it takes to field a highly competitive car. From early on we were astounded by the involvement of Dunlop at races in both choosing and designing tires. There is always a handful of Dunlop engineers at the track and this video does a great job of explaining why they are there and what exactly they are doing with those little notebooks they carry around.
Autoblog got some vague confirmation that BMW may be considering bringing the F10 5 Series wagon to the states after-all. Last winter Automotive News reported that BMW executives regretted making the decision to drop the wagon in favor of the 5 Series GT. While the GT ha out-sold the wagon, previous 5 Series wagon buyers have moved onto other brands and not (as BMW predicted) into the GT.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
