Autocar’s Steve Sutcliffe gave us his written word review a few days ago. Today we get the video version. As expect (by anyone who’s read his or other reviews) the F30 is praised in almost every way conceivable. From the steering to the fluidity of the controls, Sutcliffe calls this the best 3 Series ever.
BMW just announced pricing at the LA Auto Show for the highly anticipated F30 3 Series. We’re still getting details but for now, here are the important numbers:
While the eyes of the motoring press have been on LA this week, BMW Motorsport has been busy finishing a test of the New M3 DTM car in Spain. The big news? An “acute gastrointestinal” issue that rendered several team members incapacitated. Thankfully the Mercedes(!) team doctor was available for treatment. No we are not making this stuff up. Check out the official release (the first one we’ve seen to feature the term “gastro-intestinal”) after the break.
As we gear up for our own drive and review of the F30, we thought we’d bring you the sights and sounds of the launch itself straight from Spain. Check it out after the break.
While our turn will come with the F30, the first reviews are starting to pour in from the European and US press. The general consensus? It’s as good as we’ve hoped. Michael Taylor from Insideline at this to say:
The chassis is easily the highlight of the car, and that’s partly because of the damper control system, but mostly because the car is 88 pounds lighter, has a longer wheelbase and runs a 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution. It steals what is already an impressive show by being so nimble and light on its feet that it feels like a featherweight when you want it to dance. It’s a chassis that overachieves, one that might have been saved up for the next Z4, but here it is beneath BMW’s stock in trade.
Promising no? Let’s move from the US and to seasoned UK automotive journalist Steve Sutcliffe from Autocar:
If Superman drove a car, in fact, he’d probably drive a new BMW 320d. And the rest of us would be more than happy with any other member of the range. Because be in no doubt, a new world leader has arrived – and it may take a while for the others to catch up.
Sounds great but let’s get into more of the specifics.
We cannot pass up a chance to watch the M5 go sideways around a corner. Nor can we stop looking at photos of the F10M. Luckily BMW UK is supplying our habit with a new release of M5 material. Last week it was this video. This week it’s a treasure trove of images that make us lust after it all the more. You can check them out (in Wallpaper size) after the break.
Today BMW takes the wraps off of their new MOG integration that ads a subscription-supported music streaming service to BMWs and MINIs. Like Spotify and unlike Pandora, MOG is a $10 a month service that gives you ad free music based on your preferences. The app integrates with both BMWs and MINI much like Pandora, via the iOS app and through either MINI Connected or BMW Apps.
As we reported last spring when the beta version first appeared, MOG allows users to store their MOG music on their phone, enabling access to their favorite titles even when a data connection is not available. To help them find music MOG offers patent-pending “MOG Mobius” music discovery engine, which enables users to switch between true “artist only” radio or a full mix of similar artists. How does it sound? To our ears pretty much perfect thanks to the 320kbps quality of each track.
Look for more audio integration options as well as updated functionality from MINI Connected and BMW Apps in 2012.
Official Release: BMW and MOG today announced availability of MOG’s award winning on-demand music service in all 2011 BMW vehicles equipped with the BMW Apps and MINI Connected option in the US. This is the first integration of an on-demand music service in the car, transforming the way music fans listen to music on the road and expanding the number of places music lovers can enjoy the ultimate music listening experience.
Take note, with this release BMWi has officially begun acting as a stand alone entity under the BMW brand. Subtle yes. But an important moment. Now onto the surprisingly interesting press release.

BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.
We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
