Chris Harris Compares the M5 to the GTR

BimmerFile favorite Chris Harris has left EVO and has started a new venture (along with other familiar faces) called Drive. Consider it Top Gear but for real car enthusiasts. And the best part? It’s only available on Youtube.

We know Chris loves the F10M but we also know he isn’t afraid to call a spade a spade. Enter the incredible Nissan GTR. How do they compare? Watch on after the break.

Based on that vid, the M5 exhaust sounds positively mellifluous from outside the car. As for the GTR, I went from disliking it rather strongly to being pretty keen on it. Seeing it used as a brilliant daily driver near-supercar in Ottawa slush and snow a couple of years ago sold it to me, weird as that sounds.

I have not been a tremendous fan of the GT-R but have huge respect for what they did. Still I do have to say that for me personally the GT-R package is more interesting than the new M5. The interior of the M5 is a much nicer place to be for sure, even if they are having to pump faux V8 sounds into the cabin since the car is to quite. My basis for this would be that on the luxury/sport divide GT-R is king of the sport side and the M5 is much more on the luxury side. For me personally that would be a easy choice as sport to me is far beyond luxury. Likely the main reason why I have pursued a BMW in recent years. BMW performance is respectable though I get the feeling a major reason for the ever increasing size and mass of the brand lands firmly on the shoulders of the ever increasing luxury in the cars.

I didnt know Harris left. Oh well I’ll continue to buy/read Evo regardless (its one of the best mags out there) and follow Harris where ever he goes.
