This animation from the 2011 BMW Technology Day is once again becoming relevant. The future BMW front wheel drive model and the next generation MINI will see a three cylinder offering as shown in the clip. The N37 three cylinder was recently announced to be built at the Hams Hall engine plant in the UK. This engine in its top form of 220hp will power the BMW i8 (in addition to the hybrid electric drive).
With BMW’s recent discussions of three cylinder motors and the leaking of information that points to Paris for the debut of BMW’s first front wheel drive offering we anticipate more discussions of the engine family, consider this a basic primer.
