The 2012 Paris Motor Show (Full Gallery)

The Paris Motor Show is a big one for the BMW Group. The BMW Active Tourer, F30 M Performance, F21 M135i xDrive just to name a few. Then there’s the MINI Paceman, JCW Countryman and of course the JCW GP are making their production debuts as well. Yet there’s more in Paris than just BMW and MINI. From McLaren debuting the P1 concept to VW showing off the new Golf and GTI it’s a huge show for the ordinary cars that will be roaming local streets for years to come. You can check out the entire gallery after the break and note we’ll have more photos of both the MINI and BMW displays soon.

I thought the 3GT was supposed to be at Paris. What happened?

From what we had heard that was the plan. That means Geneva will be the debut unless it does a soft launch this fall via the web. It is doubtful it would make a US premier, but in Chicago we expect to see a world debut next year.

Yes. BMW had prepared a Concept 3er GT in the same colour and pre-production look as the Active Tourer to show BMW’s imminent approach for European customers demanding more flexibility in their everyday concepts. The response to the Active Tourer has taken BMW by surprise as both media and BMW enthusiasts ( well, a large majority) has been more positive than the earlier announcement of a FWD BMW when response was negative and to some blasphemous. That BMW decided to focus entirely on the Active Tourer Reaction to the car has been immense and identifies that BMW know exactly what they are doing and what market they are trying to reach out to with their first foray into FWD as BMW. Industry response has been favourable too. @ press day the usual suspects were crawling all over the car including bosses from Mercedes (concerned) to VAG (extremely concerned) . The 3er GT launch is imminent as the cars are undergoing film and photography in Cape Town , South Africa currently. Whether the car will appear as a concept now is unlikely. The Premiere is scheduled for Geneva in March but will be shown initially very, very soon. Geneva is not that far way when you think about it and is already shaping up to be an exciting event especially for enthusiasts of all things BMW. Including MINI’s concept that will preview the next generation MINI (or what can happen with the next MINI). To the gorgeous Rolls-Royce Ghost Coupe as a EX concept and of course BMW will not be forgotten either. The production car of the Active Tourer will be launched at the IAA next September.

@46ae5b917cc5ae5c7ae5eba289196e1e:disqus Thanks for the update, I love the idea of the 3 GT and hoping that I may be able to take it in sooner than later. I have not seen them running around Munich lately and had heard the launch was coming.

I will be in Germany for at least another three years and am excited to see what the huge amount of variants means for the presence on the roads. I can’t tell you how boring the sameness of the Audi lineup is… can’t tell an A5 from the A7 or an A8 from an A6 on the autobahn.
