Tucked away in an official statement from BMW this morning was exciting news for scooter fans and electric vehicle enthusiasts. The third of BMW ‘s C Series maxi-scooters, the all-electric C Evolution, is officially set to debut in 2014. That the C Evolution would come to production isn ‘t a big surprise, given the second generation, pre-production prototype concept shown just prior to the release of the C 600 Sport and C 650 GT. The question was one of timing. When would the C Evolution come to market, and more importantly, where? We ‘re able to answer at least one of those questions now.

Official Statement from BMW:

BMW Motorrad entered the urban mobility segment for the first time in 2012 with the C 650 GT and C 600 Sport maxi-scooters. The next step in the expansion of the product line-up in this segment will be the series launch of the “C evolution” electric scooter in 2014.

There you have it. We ‘re a year away from seeing what is arguably the first pragmatically viable electric two-wheeler from a major motorcycle manufacturer. If its riding dynamics are anywhere near as competent as its gasoline-burning siblings, then BMW will really have something here. With a projected range of 60 miles and a projected top speed of 75 mph, the C Evolution ought to make getting to work both fun and economical.
