BMW Motorrad USA Sales up 31.6% for April

With spring finally arriving across the USA, April sales numbers for BMW ‘s motorcycle division are strong — up 31.6% for the month and up 12.8% year-to-date. Key areas of growth include sales of the S 1000 RR, which outright doubled its sales volume; and F 800 GT, which saw growth of 58% over April 2012. More moderate growth (12%) came for the six-cylinder K 1300 S, yet per usual, the venerable R 1200 GS led overall sales for BMW Motorrad, showing 8% growth over last year.

Here ‘s the official breakdown from BMW:

BMW Motorrad USA reported sales of 1,571 motorcycles in April, an increase of 31.6 percent from the total of 1,194 motorcycles sold in April 2012.

With 225 units compared to 113 units last year, the award winning S 1000 RR continues to conquest buyers in the superbike segment while the recently introduced F 800 GT helped drive F-Series sales, up 58 percent on April 2012, with 83 units in the month.

Growth in K-Series (up 12 percent) came from the new 30-year edition K 1300 S but it was the all-new water-cooled R 1200 GS boxer that stole the show in April with 243 units delivered to customers, driving growth of 8 percent in R-Series models.

With one of the most diverse lineups of two-wheelers on the market, BMW continues to win converts in key segments. Strangely absent from this report, however, were unit sales numbers for the C-series scooters. Obviously there aren ‘t year-over-year numbers to be had, but with scooters targeted as a key area of growth for BMW, I ‘m curious about current demand none-the-less. Only the star sales performers were highlighted in the information we have, so we ‘re not reading anything into that, but we ‘d still like to know how scooters are doing relative to BMW ‘s other offerings.
