The Next Generation X1 Out Testing?

The X1 is only a year old in the US but it would appear that BMW is already out testing its front wheel drive successor based off of the UKL platform. Yes the same platform that will underpin everything from the next generation MINI to the 1 Series. And that of course means it’ll be front wheel drive based.

Front wheel drive. Say it with me… front wheel drive. You’ll have to get used to it because this is just the beginning as all small BMWs below the 3 Series will eventually be moving to the platform.

  • I truly don’t see an issue with this, especially if it’s everything below the 3 series line. Most people who will drive them want them because it’s a nice car (BMW) but could care less about drive terrain and HP rating etc. And most hardcore BMW fans either want an M or 335 or something of that nature. Win/win I say

    • The major impending issue is the next generation 2 Series – after the F22. If that’s front wheel drive it’ll be sacrilegious.

      • Because it’s a small coupe from BMW, something that a lot have been clamoring for? Or another reason?

        • That’s it. A small coupe from BMW is the epicenter if their brand from a historical perspective. Making that FWD would be hard to swallow as an enthusiast.
