Confirmed: BMW M3/M4 to Have Optional Carbon Backed Seats

Bimmerpost is reporting that a F80 M3 prototype crashed yesterday at the ‘Ring in the Metzgesfeld section of the track. Luckily the driver was unhurt except for pride and a sore neck. As expected spy photohraphers were on hand and snapped what they could. Ironically the photos taken of the aftermath (especially this one) confirm one thing we’ve been hearing for years; the F80 and F82 will have optional carbon backed front seats identical to those BMW use on the M3 CRT.

Assuming the manufacturing is the same detailed in the release of the CRT the backs are CFRP layers are wrapped around a recycled-paper honeycomb.

You can read more about the CRT in our review of the car here. And stay tuned for more F80/F82 news in the days and weeks ahead.

I’d opt for those, it will set the M3 and M4 further apart from standard 3 and 4-series cars. And makes me wonder even more why buy a Porsche 911?
