Mark your calendars. BMW is planning on debuting the highly anticipated M2 online Wednesday October 13th. Furthermore it looks like the M2 will be in the ordering system October 15th for European customers.

Unlike the 1M, the M2 won’t be the back to basics M car that some have wanted. Given the recent spy photos we know for instance that it will have an optional DCT transmission. Additionally rumors point to a weight just shy of the M235i’s figure of 3,505 (in manual form) or around 200 lbs more than the 1M. So while the M2 might not be the back to basics car some purists have been waiting for, it will likely be one helluva an M car.

We expect the S55’s output to be around 365 hp (up 30 on the 1M) with 343 pound-feet of torque. That would put it well above the M235i but a safe distance from the more expensive M4 that BMW doesn’t want to undercut. That power combined with less weight and a short wheelbase than the M4 will be an excellent recipe for quick reflexes and more driver engagement.

Exterior colors will reportedly be Alpine White, Black Sapphire metallic, Long Beach Blue metallic and Mineral Grey metallic.

Reportedly inside you can get any color you like as long as it’s black leather with blue stitching. These options are of course inline with M’s philosophy on the 1M as well where there were three exterior colors and black with orange stitching inside.

Production commences in November with US deliveries beginning in the early spring of 2016. EU deliveries should start in December. The digital debut will happen later this summer with a public debut at Frankfurt in September.
