If the giant grille wasn’t enough, we’ll have something else to debate on the new M3 and M4. First seen via Instagram (Misha) and then rendered by _BMW43, the M Division will offer a new M Performance Exhaust meant to work in cooperation with a full width rear diffuser.
The exhaust will relocate the famed quad layout to the center of the car to allow for a more effective rear diffuser which in turn will reduce lift (we’re doubtful it’s large enough to actually create downforce). While initially rumored to be for a forthcoming special edition model, sources have confirmed it will actually be an after sales accessory for all G80 M3s and G82 M4s.
We can’t help but wonder if this also foretells what the CS or even the CSL models will offer. CSL? Yes, the rumors point to that mythical model returning near the end of the 7-year run as a limited edition, lightweight version of the M4. The spiritual successor of the 3.0 CSL and the E46 M3 CSL, the model would likely see a radically altered interior (focused on weight savings) along with more power, aero and other goodies.
The 2021 G80 M3 and G82 M4 will debut online in two weeks along with numerous aftermarket accessories like the exhaust and diffuser above. Look for more official news (including pricing) soon.
