The V12 versions of the new 7 Series and the X5 ///M will debut soon at the Shanghai auto show.
Official Release: The new BMW 7 Series already sets the benchmark in luxury performance motoring – and now BMW is moving up the standard of maximum exclusivity and supremacy in this supreme class to an even higher level, following a completely new definition: The new BMW 760i and the new BMW 760Li are taking over the top position within BMW’s model portfolio, representing the highest level of motoring refinement in their segment. continued →
UK journalist Richard Aucock got a sneak peak into the then very secret new 7er and it’s updated iDrive system last year when we got a tour through one of BMW’s engineering labs. He also got a lot of background around the ideology behind the iDrive and BMW’s general philosophy around cockpit interaction and dispay.
BMW needed a fundamental overhaul of its controller system. As we now know, and was shown to me then, the solution it found is brilliant. ‘We’ve kept the 4-Rose menu as ‘direct’ buttons,’ said the engineers. ‘But, if you’re trained in iDrive, you don’t use the buttons. You do the whole interaction WITHOUT looking at the controller.’ continued →
Official Release: In March the BMW Group’s sales performance was again impacted by the global economic and financial crisis. In the month under review the BMW Group delivered 126,375 (prev.yr.: 152,586 / -17.2%) vehicles worldwide. Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Sales and Marketing: “The 17.2% decrease in March was smaller than in previous months. We have seen some encouraging signs in key markets like the United States and Germany. However, it is still too early to talk about a global turnaround.” continued →
Here’s some of our first footage of an (almost) done X6 M prototype at speed. We’ll have more of the X5 and X6 M being driven by test drivers around the world so check back later today. This particular video features Marc Surer, former formula 1 driver driving the new BMW X6 M at the Ascari race track in Spain.
Official release: The modern, sustainable legacy of BMW M GmbH began in 1985 when engineers placed the snarling, race-bred inline-6 engine from the M1 supercar into the production BMW 5 Series sedan, reworked the suspension and brakes, and created the first M5. Through this industry-first combination of attributes, the M5 redefined the capabilities of a sedan with levels of power, precision, balance, and linear control never before imaginable. Since
then, finding new ways to expand the boundaries of what is possible with existing
BMW models has been the singular purpose of the craftsmen at BMW M. Now the
BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M are the first all-wheel-drive models to offer the
remarkable performance, dynamic driving experience, athletic design, and
premium quality of a BMW M product.
Both models are powered by a newly-developed 4.4-liter V8 M engine delivering
555 hp at 6,000 rpm and 500 lb-ft of torque from 1500 to 5,650 rpm. This new
M engine is the world’s first with a pulse-tuned exhaust manifold encompassing
both rows of cylinders combined with high-performance twin-scroll twin turbo
technology. continued →

BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.
We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
