The 1M is (almost) revealed, so it’s time for us to start disecting the most highly anticipated M car in years. And to start off with, is it even a real M car? With a light reworked engine, can we really consider this an M car in the tradition of the E30 M3 as BMW likes to suggest? We think yes but it’s a question we’ll here more and more as the release date (Q2 of 2011) approaches.
We also spend some time on the new X3 and a number of 2011 model year changes for the US market. Enjoy!

BimmerCast 25 is all about comparisons. The 1M is discussed in relation to other $45K cars following our recent poll. We even have a little P-car talk (used 997 anyone?).
Other topics:
- X3? Yes we have details on the X3. The soon to be released SAV has been teased in every way and we give you the details that we aren’t quite allowed to write yet.
- What about the 5 Series being sold-out? Sounds true but don’t expect BMW to have trouble filling dealer lots within a month. Oh and the design? Yes the term “forgettable” is bandied about.
- The Matte Grey limited edition M3 is sold out and we talk about why and why we’re not huge fans.
- The X5 M; I expand on the recent review and why I both loved and loathed it.
- M6 anyone? Yes the prototype is on German roads and getting ready for a 2012 debut. So far it actually looks good.

Big show tonight. We invited our good friends from Whiteroofradio (the MINI podcast the is arguably the most popular independent automotive podcast on iTunes) to talk BMW and to talk BMW vs MINI. It’s a throw-down and I think it’s pretty clear who the winner is at the end.
We also talk BMW news. The 1M of course followed by some diesel talk (if you want to know what the next diesel BMW NA is bringing, listen), our 550i review and of course we talk about the new Frozen Grey Edition M3.
But what about the new front wheel drive BMW and how it relates to MINI? We dive into this with the WRR guys and talk about the challenges BMW is going to have sharing a chassis and engines.
Finally there’s the 24 Hours of LeMans. Not BMW’s finest hour and we dissect what happened and why.

This week we start off talking about what we’re both driving and reviewing starting with the X5 M (hate the transmission, surprisingly love the car) and then moving onto the F10 550i (better in every way over the E60).
Another week means another couple stories worth of 1M rumors and many more details. So we touch on what we expect with the new baby M and when we expect it (hint; it’s looking pretty damn good). What about production? Will it be easy to get one? The easy answer is sort of.
We then take some time to recap my recent trip to Munich and BMW’s new environmental testing center and talk about what it means for BMW’s products and those plastic and swirl clad test cars we’ve grown to love.

Another huge BMW Podcast for us. We recap Michael’s experience at last week’s BMW NA press event where he had to drive pretty much every car BMW imports to the US on the track. It also gives us our best debate yet on whether or not the 335is is truly an M3 killer. But what about the 135i with the new N55 engine? We had guessed it may be down on (actual) power as compared to the N54. Conclusions? You’ll have to listen!
We then move on to talk about the new Competition Package M3, 5 Series diesels (we drop some hints as to the engine we’ll likely see in the US) and of course the car we can’t get enough of, the Alpina B7.
Finally we touch on the incredible showing at the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring with BMW winning the race outright.

As you may have guessed we’re pretty pumped for the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring this weekend here at BF. Sure F1 is at Monaco but for those could do without the glitz and glamour and would rather focus on the ultimate man and machine, there isn’t a better race in the world. So with that said we thought it appropriate to do a little refresher on the track that will be featured this weekend and that has so shaped BMW over the years.
The Nordschleife Nurburgring has been synonymous with the BMW brand since the 1930’s. BMW and its products are probably more closely tied to the ‘Ring than any other manufacturer. Every car BMW designs and engineers ultimately makes its way to the ‘Ring for what some would consider the most important part of its development process.
