New M cars don’t get introduced very often. They don’t even happen every year. Yet today we’re treated to the debut of two of them in the 3rd
generation M6 coupe and convertible. With it comes that wonderful feeling of laying your eyes on a new M car (even virtually) for the first time. And perhaps even better, taking a look at the full specifications. So with that said, we present you a first look at the 3rd generation BMW M6 by the numbers.

Introducing The All-New 3rd Generation BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible.
To BMW, February 11th marks the commencement of sales for the all new 2012 F30 3 Series sedan, its bread and butter model. That wasn’t enough for BMW today. BMW M also revealed not one car but two; the M6 Coupe and Convertible.
The third generation M6 builds on the underpinnings of BMW’s highly acclaimed 6 series luxury coupe and convertible. As is customary with M, everything is scrutinized and improved upon to increase the sporting character of the car. Last summer’s premiere of the M5 super-sedan was a tip of the cards as to what the M6 would be packing in terms of performance modification, M Adaptive Rear Differential, M Dual Clutch Transmission and an M Twin Power V8 engine (S63Tü) just to name a few.
The M developed turbo charged V8 with valvetronic variable valve lift churns out a staggering 560hp and 500 ft-lbs of neck snapping torque from 1250-5750 rpms while gaining 30% efficiency, 10% horsepower and 30% torque over its V10 predecessor. The now characteristic M aggressiveness, as first seen with the X5/X6 M models and most recently the 1M and M5, of wide front air intakes and sharp race inspired edges continues with the M6. As a throw back to the original of the same name, the M6 badge is displayed on the black slotted kidney grille.
Advances in Carbon Fiber manufacturing have allowed the Coupe to don an aggressive contoured roof, with the center section being lower than the flanking sides to improve aerodynamics and provide a signature look that is unmistakable. Carbon-Ceramic brakes will be optional for the first time on a BMW M product, featuring massive discs and six piston calipers up front these brakes will be differentiated from the standard M brakes (blue) by the calipers being gold in color.
At launch, both M6 models will only be offered with the 7 speed M Dual Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic. No manual will be available. However, we have learned that it is still under consideration for the US market.
If the base 6 series models and the M5 are any indication of what this car is about we are fairly sure that this time around we will be smitten with the M6. Something that we have longed for.

Following the movie’s world premiere in Dubai on December 7, 2011 the film will have preview runs in IMAX and other large format theaters in the U.S. tonight December 16, 2011, with a general public release on December 21, 2011.
After the jump you will see some prime footage of BMWs racing through a sandstorm passing other German brands. Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise uses the available third pedal in his borrowed 650i drop top to chase the bad guy down… over the top in typical MI fashion. BMWs will be showcased throughout this movie and is part of BMW’s larger push to use product placement in movie and TV productions rather than running typical advertising.

You don’t clip an apex in a 650i. You hustle it around a corner. This is what I told myself as I slipped into the off-white leather of the our 650i convertible test car for the first time. It was mile one of a 700 mile week of living with a $107,000 BMW. The kind of car that most of us don’t think of owning new or even second hand. And the 6 Series isn’t the kind of car BMW enthusiasts generally flock to or even pine for.
The E24 6 Series in the 80′s was a stylish icon of excess wrapped around a capable chassis and classic BMW drivetrains. Yet there were many (and still are) that felt the E28 5 Series was the better car. The same could be said for the E31 8 Series versus the E34 5er and even the previous generation E63 6 Series versus the E60 5er. It’s clear BMW meant to end that tradition with the new F12 6 Series Convertible. This would be a big coupe that would be carved out of the traditions of the early 70′s E9 CS.

We’ve just returned from the Frankfurt IAA and to say that the BMW Hall is overwhelming is an absolute understatement. The scale of BMW’s home auto show venue is immense. Imagine an auto show floor stateside and then think that the size of that entire building is around the size of BMW’s own in Frankfurt- it is that enormous. BMW didn’t disappoint its fans in its presentation of its newest offerings and future concepts; offering a wide range of vehicles, all presented in the ideals of Efficient Dynamics. Our cameras were able to capture it all so be sure to check out the gallery.
