BMW took the wraps off of the i8 Spyder concept along with the production version of the long wheelbase 3 Series. The i8 Spyder concept also marks the debut of BMW’s eDrive nomenclature which will identify the drive technology for all electric and plug-in hybrid cars from BMW i.
BMW eDrive comprises the components of the electric drivetrain: the electric motor developed in-house by BMW, the lithium-ion battery, and finally the intelligent motor management system. One of the hallmarks of this technology will be that full torque of the electric motor will be available from a standing start and the acceleration unfolds continuously until the top speed is attained. The lithium-ion battery cells and the intelligent motor management system also offer a substantial increase in range and power for the vehicle.

Without going to the Bejing International Auto Show and seeing the car yourself, these videos offer up the best way to check out BMWi’s latest concept. While i8 Spyder is technically a different concept than the i8 coupe we’re all familiar with, it gives us hints at what the Coupe will look like in final production form. Gone are the clear polycarbonate “glass” doors, replaced with standard opaque materials (CFRP) to meet crash worthiness no doubt. Inside we see a look that is more realistic with components that are more approachable in terms of cost and functionality.

BMW i8 Concept Spyder.
The BMW i8 Spyder Concept picks up where the BMW i8 left off in taking the future of mobility and bringing a step closer to reality. The new SPYDER shows us a glimpse at what the i8 coupe will truly look like in street guise. Gone are the clear polycarbonate “glass” doors, replaced with standard opaque materials (CFRP) to meet crash worthiness no doubt. The interior has been made more realistic with components that are more approachable in terms of cost and functionality.
The i8 will debut in 2014 as BMWi’s second model after the i3 Mega City Vehicle. This new concept is anticipated to fall in line sometime in 2015. The future is approaching and BMWi is leading the charge. Full Release and galleries after the jump.

The Czeck site Autoforum.cz has lifted the veil early on BMWi’s next concept – the i8 Spyder. Sure to catch the ire of BMW, the site has three photos showing a car clearly derived from the i8 Coupe concept that debuted 18 months ago. What this concept does is provide us with a more accurate view of the production i8.

We’re back but a week since our last show with a look ahead at 2012 and some improved audio quality and another big 60 minute show. But more importantly we tell you how to properly order an F30 and what those “Lines” really are.
After the F30 we move onto the Detroit and Geneva Motor shows and what to expect at each. But what about M? 2012 will initially be the year of the M5 and then as things warm-up a drop-top with close to 600 hp. We break-down what to expect from the new halo M car – the M6. Finally I admit to temporarily putting an E60 M5 into limp mode due to cold weather and a little impatience.

On January 9th 2012 the automotive world will converge on Cabo Hall, Detroit Michigan (like in Frankfurt above). This coming North American International Auto Show is going to be a spectacular event, not for the venue itself but for the number of production cars making world premieres as well as the Concept cars that will shape the future landscape of automobiles as we known them.
From the American big three to the Germans and Japanese, each company from those respective nations is said to be showing something that will come to market within the next year. BMW, not to be upstaged by the competition has some significant vehicles that will make their first appearances as well as showcasing the future of the BMW brand in North America. The following is what we believe to make appearances.

Following the movie’s world premiere in Dubai on December 7, 2011 the film will have preview runs in IMAX and other large format theaters in the U.S. tonight December 16, 2011, with a general public release on December 21, 2011.
After the jump you will see some prime footage of BMWs racing through a sandstorm passing other German brands. Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise uses the available third pedal in his borrowed 650i drop top to chase the bad guy down… over the top in typical MI fashion. BMWs will be showcased throughout this movie and is part of BMW’s larger push to use product placement in movie and TV productions rather than running typical advertising.

Take note, with this release BMWi has officially begun acting as a stand alone entity under the BMW brand. Subtle yes. But an important moment. Now onto the surprisingly interesting press release.
