Official Release A warm welcome from the BMW Group!

In 2007, we first unveiled our Efficient Dynamics fleet here in Geneva.

In 2011, we presented Connected Drive here – our concept for networked driving and enhanced safety and comfort.

Today, we want to demonstrate what aesthetics and emotion mean in an automobile.

Today, this vehicle is making its world debut. It’s the new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé.

Anyone who knows BMW will know that this is the first four-door coupé in the history of our brand. It’s also our third model in the BMW 6 Series range: So our customers can now choose between a convertible, a coupé, and a four-door coupé.

It should come as as no surprise that since the series version of the Gran Coupe has been revealed, the M version is now out winter testing. The spies over at CarScoop have snagged some photos of the four door coupe in the white stuff. Rumored to be BMW M’s most powerful and luxurious offering the M6 Gran Coupe will future the S63tü engine as found in the M5 and M6 but with a slight up tune in the neighborhood of 25 hp totaling 585hp.

Chris Harris Reviews the M550d xDrive

MotoringFile Sections: //M5\\, //M\\, //M\\ Diesels, F10 5 Series Feb 28th, 2012 1 Comment

We have been reading these things for the past few days, BMW let some of the press drive the newly released M550d xDrive right down the road in Munich. City driving and unlimited autobahn jaunts were the order of business, mind you on the legally required snow tires here in Germany. While we will refrain from setting forth our opinion until we drive this M Performance offering we trust Chris’ opinion.

World Premier: BMW M135i Concept

MotoringFile Sections: //M\\, Concept, F20 1 Series, Official News Feb 24th, 2012 10 Comments

What can we say aside from we love the idea of it. Hatches always have offered something more in terms of functionality when compared to sedans but for one reason or another they have not received a performance treatment from BMW. Audi and VW have hot hatches as does MINI with the JCW but never BMW, until now. BMW has chosen to reveal the all new 3 door 1 Series in a specialized form, the M Performance version. Said to be sportier looking and performing compared to its five-door counterpart this “concept” is what many have been looking for. It will more than likely feature the up-tuned N55 inline six- the “40i” model or power kit version of the engine as it is known outside the M Performance line of cars. Therefore expect something close to 320 hp with perhaps even some M specific software to give it a touch more character.

The M135i takes the formula that BMW had been using for the “IS” models and pushes it further with other M Specific touches as well. The car will likely feature M’s new six piston set-up that is optional on the 3 Series in M Sport configuration. Finally helping the car around corners will likely be a M specific tweaking of the suspension.

We know all to well that the majority of BMW “Concepts” are near production versions of the car soon to hit the market so we would imagine that if it were to lose the stripes the car should be almost identical to those on showroom floors this summer. This of course being a hatch will not make its way to the good old US of A as people apparently won’t buy them or so it is rumored after the E36 debacle.

However don’t be surprised to see a coupe version of this car on US ordering sheets within the next 18 months.

To ring in Super Bowl Sunday we bring you a short video via M-Power about what makes M cars so great. Balance. As is shown by the 1M, balance is more important than 0-60 sprints or top speed. It is the corners that shave seconds off of lap times and what truly matter.

About BimmerFile

BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.

We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.

In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
