We have seen several sets of spy photos of what can be interpreted as a BMW X6 ///M over the last month. Originally it was thought that it would feature an over boosted version of the Twin Turbo V8 in the xDrive50i as the source of wheel spinning power.
Indications now are that these test mules could be featuring a advanced hybrid system designed under BMW’s F1 program, a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). This is an different system to the previous hybrid X6 (non-///M) we had featured which will utilize the system jointly developed with MB, GM and Chrysler.
History was made today for both Robert Kubica and BMW. Robert is the first Pole to win an F1 event. Today was also the first BMW victory since it began racing in F1.
To add to the celebration for team BMW/Sauber was a second place finish for Nick Heidfeld. These finishes place BMW neck and neck with Ferrari for the overall championship (BMW 3 points behind)! Kubica now leads the drivers in points with 42 over the 38 of Massa and Hamilton. An exciting race and an overall victorious day for BMW.
The Canadian Grand Prix will take place this Sunday with qualifying on Saturday. You can watch the race 1pm on FOX this time around, the qualifying will be on Speed but may not be shown in all areas due to the Grand Am Rolex series race at Watkin’s Glen (the Daytona Prototypes will have BMW entries from Rum Bum Racing and SAMAX).
Kubica has been running well of late and within the last practice session so he of the two drivers is the one to watch and as always BMW will be in the hunt for a victory.
Weather for qualifying will be be clear, but scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast for the race on Sunday.

Monte Carlo (MC). Lewis Hamilton recovered from an early contact with the barriers to win a frantic Monaco Grand Prix and take the lead in the drivers’ championship. Robert Kubica drove a clean race to take second ahead of Felipe Massa.
Finishing second in the most prestigious Grand Prix of the year, Robert Kubica made sure he took part in the podium celebrations held in the principality’s famous winners’ lounge. It was the team’s fourth podium this season and their eighth overall. Kubica’s team mate, Nick Heidfeld, who has four podiums to his credit, had a black Sunday. Having started from 12th he had improved to fifth when Fernando Alonso (Renault) hit the side of his car on lap 14. In the end Heidfeld brought his damaged F1.08 to the chequered flag in 14th and last place.
Kubica continues to be in control while Heidfeld is dealt another blow to his confidence.
Monaco Grand Prix – Qualifying, Saturday – 24.05.08
Weather: light rain during practice, dry during Qualifying. 19-21°C Air, 19-29°C Track
Monte Carlo (MC). Robert Kubica qualified fifth for the Monaco Grand Prix. His teammate, Nick Heidfeld, ended his streak of qualifying in the top 10 for 28 consecutive races when he came in 13th. A red flag after an accident (David Coulthard) robbed him of his last opportunity to get a top ten position.
Light rain in the morning gave a preview of what a wet race would be like in Monaco. For Kubica and Heidfeld the third practice session was trouble free. Kubica especially dealt well with these tricky conditions.
This weekend the famed Grand Prix of Monaco will take place. The BMW Sauber F1 team is expected to do well in this race even though only one car (Kubica) will be tuned specifically for this demanding course.
Nick Heidfeld blew his motor during practice and the team scrambled to replace it so that he would be able to get back racing; whether or not this will effect both drivers is still unknown. The rain forecasted will be a further complication and may create treacherous conditions for the drivers.
If you are lucky enough to have the “Speed” channel you can tune into this race on Saturday and Sunday with a start time around 8am EST.
Today we offer up a nice video of some doughnuts and commentary with BMW Sauber F1 pilot Nick Heidfeld as well as WTCC and Formula BMW driver’s. Nice to see BMW allows the factory to shut down and workers to have some entertainment like this!
The Nordschleife Nurburgring has been synonymous with the BMW brand since the 1930’s. BMW and its products are probably more closely tied to the ‘Ring than any other manufacturer. Every car BMW designs and engineers ultimately makes its way to the ‘Ring for what some would consider the most important part of its development process.
The beauty of the Nordschleife is that you can actually drive any street legal car on it much of the year. All it takes is around $30 and you have a chance to tackle the most famous (and perhaps dangerous) track in the world. Having driven it in the past I can tell you that there is simply nothing that can totally prepare you for the experience. No matter how great video games have become, there is no way they can match the sensation of the real track. And beyond that the paddock area is about as close to automotive heaven as you can get. Every kind of car from every manufacturer is there in one of the best impromptu car shows you’ll ever see.
BMW Motorosports Press Release: After the first three fly-away races of the season the BMW Sauber F1 Team returns to Europe leading the championship. Robert Kubica, who claimed the first pole position for the team on Saturday, and Nick Heidfeld were third and fourth respectively at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The team celebrated its third consecutive podium and, for the first time in its young history, took the lead in the standings, although the gap is only one point.
Robert Kubica: 3rd
Fastest Lap: 1.33.775 min on lap 55 (5th fastest overall)
“I am happy with the result. This is my second consecutive podium and the team is leading the constructors’ championship. Unfortunately I had massive wheel spin at the start and hit some debris in the first corner of the second lap. When I drove through the oil I was sure I had punctured my tyre as at that point I didn’t have the information about the oil. But this was a great day for the team. I am now looking forward to Barcelona.”

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
