Official Release: The BMW Group continued on its successful course as the world’s leading premium car company once again in April with an increase of 6.1% in sales. A total of 145,505 (prev. yr. 137,195) BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand automobiles were sold worldwide last month. Over the past four months the number of deliveries climbed 9.8% to a new record of 571,040 vehicles (prev. yr. 519,958).
“Following on from the best first quarter in the company’s history, we have just reported our most successful April sales ever. We are well on course to achieving a record year in 2012. We are clearly benefitting from a very attractive product line-up which is finding success with customers right across the globe. This momentum will continue as we add new vehicles throughout the year, such as the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé in June”, said Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management, Sales and Marketing BMW, in Munich on Tuesday.
BMW has released our first look at the new M5 driving in anger around what looks like Ascari in Spain. Actually it’s probably more appropriate to say it’s mixture of loafing and then driving in anger as the F10M is clearly showing up its dual personality in this video.

Our friends over at DrivesTv have posted an eye candy video of the Alpina B7. What can we say about the Alpina B7 besides- it is a gorgeous machine which offers high end luxury and outstanding performance, not much more because it simply offers what few others do. We’d love one to park alongside say an M3 or 1M.
What do you get when you take a Z4 that BMW Motorsport has modified, powered with the famed motor used in the ///M3, a team of talented drivers and enter it a 24 hour race? A dominant victory of course.
We have been huge fans of the BMW Z4 GT3 since we first laid eyes on it- it is mean and lean while still being effective. BMWAG is not racing this car but offering it as a customer race car. The Swiss Schubert Motorsport team is sponsored by Need For Speed this year and with a big sponsor comes big name drivers, like Tommy Milner (formerly of ALMS BMW Rahal Letterman Racing), BMW WTCC factory driver Augusto Farfus and team regulars Claudia Hurtgen and Edward Sandstrom.
Today’s ALMS “Friday Flashback” takes us back to Road America in 2006 for the GT2 duel between Jörg Bergmeister and Joey Hand. Bergmeister, driving a Porsche for Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing at the time, had to come back to best Hand’s BMW M3 from the BMW Team PTG stable after the 911 went off in the waning minutes. Included below is a comparison in-car from this year’s Road America race from the winning BMW Rahal Letterman Racing BMW M3 GT.
We’re guessing it’s not HPFP related but we can’t verify that. Nevertheless all is well after the former worked stormed into the office, fired two shots in the air and took three employees hostage. No one was injured and the alleged assailant is now in custody.
BMWAG has just announced the BMW-on-Demand program. This is the first attempt of a major automaker giving the car rental thing a try. The trial run of the program will of course take place in the marquees home city of Munich. Customers would enter the BMW Welt and go to a specialized service counter to have all of their car needs met, from as general as the specific model to finite things such as color. Unlike ZIPCar which a monthly fee is attached for a variety of cars distributed around a specific city (sharing) the BMW Program is rented by the hour more along the lines of a rental car.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
