We’re just days away from seeing BMW back in the ultimate form of touring car racing. To celebrate BMW has put together a preview of the car and the team.
Official Release: BMW Motorsport and Akrapovič will line up as partners in the 2012 DTM season. The logo of the leading manufacturer of high-quality exhaust systems for motorcycles and high-performance cars will be visible on five of the six BMW M3 DTM cars that will take to the track for BMW when the series gets underway at the Hockenheimring (DE) on 29th April 2012.
Akrapovič is also one of the world’s leading companies in composite components and the innovative use of superalloys.
The new line of BMW M Performance automobiles will fill a market void. Its products will slate in between the base BMW model and M model. The lineup will also address niches that M has not explored before; such as diesel.
We thought it would be fitting with the official launch of the F10 M5 an the New York International Autoshow to showcase its exhaust (does it really not have one that can be heard?), handling and ease of drifting. This video is perfect for just that. Shot in Spain at the Ascari racetrack in the beautiful Andalusian countryside the M5 is an ax murderer being chased by a Eurocopter. Enjoy! (Skip to around 3 minutes if the video does not start there!)
Without going to the Bejing International Auto Show and seeing the car yourself, these videos offer up the best way to check out BMWi’s latest concept. While i8 Spyder is technically a different concept than the i8 coupe we’re all familiar with, it gives us hints at what the Coupe will look like in final production form. Gone are the clear polycarbonate “glass” doors, replaced with standard opaque materials (CFRP) to meet crash worthiness no doubt. Inside we see a look that is more realistic with components that are more approachable in terms of cost and functionality.
Ever wonder what a 1M would be like if M gave it not only the suspension and brakes of the M3 but the full kit including the raucous V8? Well, look no further than the video above. Some talented tuners in Egypt built such a beast from a base 1er coupe. They have created a drift machine now backed by Liqui-Moly and competing in the Red Bull Drift Championships piloted by one of Egypt’s top drivers Rami Serry.
Short wheel base, and free revving V8 is a good formula for drifting- as we know the E92 M3 was voted best drift car not that long ago so the 1M S65 must be even better.
The M6 was the start of the show in Geneva but the entire BMW display was in glorious form with the debut of the 3 Series Hybrid, M Performance line of cars and the M135i concept. And sometimes photos and our own anecdotes don’t quite capture that. So in an effort to bring you the show in every way possible, we’ve got a full video walk-through (in 1080p glory) of both the BMW and MINI displays after the break.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
