BMW Museum Opened in Official Ceremony

MotoringFile Sections: Official News, Vintage Jun 20th, 2008 2 Comments

Official Press Release: On 19 June 2008, Chairman of the Board of Management of the BMW Group, Dr. Norbert Reithofer, opened the BMW Museum in an official opening ceremony. He highlighted the importance of tradition for the company: “Awareness of our heritage, the experiences and developments that our company has been through give us direction, power and inspiration for our work”.

After a period of construction lasting two and a half years, visitors can look forward to more than 120 exhibits in museum space covering 5,000 square metres. They will be presented in a completely new exhibition concept. The circular museum building right next to the company head office tower will continue to be a landmark. The adjacent low-level building now complements the “Bowl” - as the circular museum building has been designated ever since it was opened in 1973. This has entailed increasing the available floorspace fivefold. The museum will open its doors to the public this coming Saturday, 21 June 2008 from 10.00.

Courtesy of Bring a Trailer, we’ve got another excellent early BMW. This time it’s a restored Chamonix White BMW 1600 Cabriolet with a few very tasteful mods. The engine compartment looks like it could be eaten off of. Auction is about to end so get your bid in has ended.

Courtesy of Bring a Trailer, what appears to be a very nice early BMW sedan is available on Ebay. It has lived most of its time in Utah and is owned by a “self-proclaimed perfectionist seller”. Have a look at the dish on those excellent BBS rims.

About BimmerFile

BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.

We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.

In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
