The all new 2021 4 Series design has been discussed, critiqued and even vilified since the cladding first came off the prototypes. Now that it’s debuted that noise has gotten even worse. But we’re all just arm-chair automotive designers. What does an actual designer think? Enter former BMW and MINI designer Frank Stephenson.

Frank famously designed the X5, R50 MINI and then went on to create icons such as the Fiat 500, Maserati MC12 and McLaren P1. In short his opinion carries some weight. So what does he think of the new 4 Series?

While he likes many aspects of it, he’s clearly bewildered at the size and prominence of the controversial grille. He’s also calls out the loss of the famous Hofmeister kink and strong belt line that has defined BMWs for decades. Check out the full video below.
