GoldBet SBK Team Finalizes Winter Testing on Phillip Island

With FIM World Superbike about to kick off in earnest for 2013, racing teams around the world are getting in their final test laps of winter. This includes the GoldBet SBK Team, their BMW S 1000 RR race bikes, plus riders Marco Melandri and Chaz Davies. The GoldBet SBK chose Austalia\'s Phillip Island to make their final pre-season adjustments.

With the 2013 R 1200 GS, BMW has done something completely new with the iconic engine: added liquid cooling. However, it\'s important to understand that this new engine is only partially cooled by the wet stuff. As demonstrated in the video above, water cooled in the GS\'s radiators is circulated through the engine\'s block, cylinders and the very bottom of the drivetrain. The rest of the engine\'s cooling is provided by good old fashioned ambient airflow.

BMW Officially Selling Husqvarna

In a multi-faceted press release published this morning, BMW Motorrad has confirmed what was rumored yesterday: BMW is selling its Husqvarna sub-brand. As reported by <em>Hell For Leather</em> and featured here on BimmerFile, Husqvarna is being sold to Austrian company Pierer Industrie AG, a company with ownership ties to KTM executive Stefan Pierer.

<em>Hell for Leather</em> is reporting that KTM CEO Stefan Pierer is finalizing a deal to acquire BMW\'s subsidiary offroad motorcycle marque, Husqvarna, via Pierer Industries AG. Pierer is part owner in KTM through shares in Cross AG, which is also backed by Indian moto giant Bajaj. It was originally thought that KTM was vying to acquire the small motor maker outright, but as more information has come in, the situation has gotten more nuanced.

Winter Testing the BMW S 1000 RR for FIM Superbike

With the 2013 FIM Superbike World Championship season kicking off in less than a month, BMW is wrapping up its winter testing program. The BMW Motorrad GoldBet SBK Team continued its preparation with two days of testing with the new 2013 race version of the BMW S 1000 RR in Jerez, Spain.

It\'s been a great Dakar for BMW Group. <a href=\"http://www.motoringfile.com/2013/01/20/mini-all4-racing-wins-2nd-consecutive-dakar-rally/\">MINI successfully defended their title</a> with overall victory two years in a row. On two wheels, the Husqvarna team made quite the showing in this year\'s rally. Twelve podiums in fourteen stages netted the team a 10th place finish overall for rider Paulo Goncalves. At only their second run at the iconic Rally, finishing in the top ten is nothing to smirk at.

Husqvarna Nuda Wins 2012 GOOD DESIGN Award

Congratulations go out to BMW Group as six vehicles receive design awards from the prestigious GOOD DESIGN awards. Included in the mix was one machine from the Motorrad devision: The Husqvarna Nuda 900 R. The Nuda is the flagship machine for the BMW Group company, carrying forward the rejuvenated Husqvarna brand and challenging what a factory motard can be.

Dakar: Barreda Wins Second Half of Marathon Stage

Joan Barreda landed a victory in the second leg of the Marathon stage, which ran from Cachi to San Miguel de Tucuman. A heavy rainfall in the night forced the organizers to reprogram a shorter than planned stage, and cancel the first part of the special test, leaving only the final 183 km (114 miles).

Joan Barreda Dominates the Fourth Stage of the Dakar

Joan Barreda commanded a particularly hazardous fourth stage of the Dakar, Nazca – Arequipa with 289 km of special test, which covered all types of terrain, and was made difficult by the “fesh-fesh” dust. The Spaniard on the Husqvarna TE449RR by Speedbrain battled his way to an eight minute lead over his nearest rival, and managed to come from behind in the process.
