And now for no good reason other than we’re tired of hearing about SAVs and the upcoming PAS, we present you the E46 M3 CSL.
For those that might not remember or know much about the E46 M3 CSL here’s a quick refresher from Wikipedia:
BMW made a limited run (less than 1,400 units) of the M3 CSL (E46) machines between June and December 2003. The CSL (Coupe Sport Lightweight) received an aggressive weight reduction campaign, more power (up to 360 hp), and sharper handling characteristics than the standard M3, courtesy of larger anti-roll bars, stiffer spring rates, and semi-slick racing compound tires (Michelin Pilot Sport Cups). From the exterior, the CSL is distinguished from its standard sibling with a different wheel design, larger integrated rear spoiler and a large air intake hole on the left side of the front bumper. Weight loss was achieved through use of a carbon-fiber roof, trunk lid made of sheet molding compound, lighter exhaust manifold, thinner rear glass, carbon fiber front bumper, rear diffuser, interior door panels and console, lightweight racing seats, removed sound insulation, and the removal of side air bags. The M3 CSL’s engine differs from the M3 with different camshafts, carbon-fiber intake manifold and alpha-N engine management. Several other features available in a regular M3 as standard such as air conditioning and radio were also deleted, although these options could be added at the request of the owner. SMG II sequential manual gearbox was made standard.
Official Press Release: BMW is the first car manufacturer to equip all new diesel-powered models with an Incorrect Fuelling Protection System as standard equipment. The innovative system helps prevent cases of misfuelling at the pump and its far-reaching consequences. A special mechanism fitted to the filler neck prevents drivers from accidentally inserting the fuel filler nozzle of a standard unleaded gasoline pump into the filler neck of a diesel-powered car. This technology has been tried-and-tested in a variety of BMW models with diesel engines and will now be fitted to all diesel-powered BMW models, including the 335d Sedan and X5 xDrive35d now on sale in the US, right from the factory.
Fast Company takes a look at Porsche’s new much talked about museum that opens this weekend and how it compares to the BMW Welt. A great read for armchair architecture buffs and car enthusiasts alike.
We have been scratching our heads here about what exactly is BMW thinking with creating this new niche vehicle in the PAS. We now have a better idea thanks to the marketing department and BMW-web.tv.
Look for BMW to debut this concept at a specific Munich press event in February with a production ready version to follow later this year.
This is the first video of a series presenting this new concept by BMW. Innovative space concepts, premium comfort. It is not a sedan, no SUV and no station-wagon, but 100% BMW. Or at least that’s what BMW marketing is saying. We’ll withhold our judgement until we drive it.
We can officially say it is official. BMWNA will be introducing the 2010 models of the 5 and 6 Series soon. Production will begin in March.
This will intro the “new” iDrive (CIC) into these models along with some other cosmetic tweaks. It is worth noting that if you do not choose the optional Navigation system you will receive the current iDrive system (CCC). We will update you with more info as we receive it.
It is official, BMW snuck the 3 Series ///M sports in the system so they can be ordered! Originally it was not believed the 3 Series would be part of the ///M Sport (ZMP) lineup for the US launch. They now have definitely been included. All models except the 335d can be equipped with this option. Yes, even the sport wagon!
BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.
We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
