We previewed the kit last winter and BMW released it earlier this summer with the 135i and 335i Performance Editions. Today BMW has finally (and officially) released details around the two BMW Performance Power Kits for the N55 equipped 135i, 335i and X6 models. Both kits are aggressively priced with the first coming in at a surprising $599. Granted it’s all software but still it’s hard to argue with a 20 hp increase. Version two is the same with an added Auxiliary Water Cooler and an Enhanced Radiator Fan to reduce engine temperatures during extreme (i.e. track) driving. Obviously the second kit is highly recommended if you plan on doing any track days. Which of course you should be doing anyway.
Official Release: Now, more invigorating horsepower and torque, is available with two new power kits bring crisp stimulating performance to the Ultimate Driving Machine. BMW 135i and 335i Models can now be retrofitted at BMW centers or via the Port Installation Program to an unprecedented level of performance. These new Power Kits ensure that new car buyers and current owners are in for that extra thrill beyond the outstanding performance that can already be realized with these exciting vehicles.
BMW Performance is showing off its latest design concept. Much like the 1 Series tii from several years ago we expect much of the tweaks to eventually be offered as accessories. However, this is more than just a few new things to add to your 1 Series. The components seen here herald in the 2nd generation of BMW Performance parts that the company plans to sell through it’s dealer network.
We reported last week that BMW intends to roll-out a new collection of Performance accessories for its M cars. And the one that got the most interest was the highly anticipate M Stripe package for the 1M. Originally rumored to be a throw-back design, the stripes clearly are a down-sized version of the same design that debuted earlier this spring on the M3.
And while we didn’t care for them on the M3, we definitely don’t care for them on the 1M.
BMW Performance has quietly released a stripe package earlier this summer for the current E92 M3 that harkens back to the classic look of the 70′s. The package is comprised of six pieces, three on each side. We suspect that the forthcoming 1M graphics package will have a similar look and placement.
We just received word from a dealer source that BMW North American intends to send the E90 out with a bang by offering the “Performance Edition” with August production. The ZMZ package (as it’s known on the options sheet) will include the following:
BMW Performance Engine Kit (additional 20 hp and 32 ft lbs of torque)
Black Grilles
Performance Edition badging
In order to receive the ZMZ you must order your E90 with the Sport or M Sport package. It’s our understanding that installations will be done at the port and that a similar dealer installed retro-fit will also be made available.
The price? A shockingly competitive $550. We’ll have more details soon. In the meantime, let’s take a closer look at the crux of the package, the N55′s engine kit.
During BMW’s recent after-sales convention in Las Vegas BMW NA set-up a small track to show off the benefits of the Performance Parts. Needless the difference was obvious on the track.
The onslaught of videos from BMW’s home grown tuning and accessory arm BMW Performance continues. This video describes the current varied product range and how there is more than just tuning to the line. In the video there is copious amounts of carbon fiber, and sound from exhausts; great things to us enthusiasts.
The BMW ///M3 has been accused of being the poor man’s super car; while something that costs over $60k should never be considered cheap or for the poor it is relatively accurate when considering it is often compared to cars two times that price. It is tough to make something so special even better, and that was my initial concern when we heard BMW was coming out with a Performance line for the ///M3.
Anyone can lay up Carbon Fiber and offer it up as styling accessories, and there are countless companies you will never read about on this site that do just that. These aftermarket brands often design these spoilers, lips and other accouterments to look aggressive and to add a bling factor. Has BMW succumbed to the current market and created a line of parts that are really only eye candy? Of course not.

We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
