BMW released press release late last week that hints and something big that relates to US production. More specifically BMW has invited journalists to its U.S. plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Friday, March 28th at 1 PM to hear jointly from the BMW Group Chairman Dr. Norbert Reithofer and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. Additionally South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and BMW Group Board Member Harald Krueger (head of the global production), Manfred Erlacher (President, BMW Manufacturing) will be on hand. So what will they announce?

It’s not the X4 which has been previously announced as being manufactured at the South Carolina plant. Our hunch is that it’s a vehicle that will have a much bigger impact in terms of jobs and units produced. Could it be that BMW has finally decided to shift some 3 or 5 Series production to the US? That would be a massive story as it’s the core of the brand in terms of sales and soul. Or could it be something entirely new such as the X7? We’ll find out soon.
