BMW of North America broke records in 2024 with sales figures up 2.5 compared to 2023. However it’s where these increases came from that’s so interesting. Yes crossovers continue to play a massive role in BMW’s US sales success. But there were also a few surprising stars for 2024.

BMW Battery Electric Vehicle Sales

BMW hit the ground running with four fully electric BEV models on the market in 2024, achieving a record-breaking numbers for electric vehicle sales in the U.S. and eclipsing the 50,000-unit milestone.

In the fourth quarter of 2024, BMW sold 13,876 BEVs in the U.S., reflecting a slight 3.5% decline from the 14,374 units sold in Q4 of 2023. However, the full-year results painted a brighter picture, with BMW’s BEV sales rising by 12.3%, totaling 50,981 vehicles—up from 45,417 in the previous year.

Overall Winners:

BMW X1: As we predicted, the new X1 has been a massive hit for BMW with almost 30,000 sales for 2024.

BMW X3: The X3 continues to be a standout performer in BMW’s lineup. While specific sales figures for 2024 are not detailed in the report, the X3’s consistent popularity and previous sales trends suggest it remains a key contributor to BMW’s success. In 2023, the X3 sold 63,172 units in the U.S., reflecting its strong market position.

BMW 2 Series: This was surprise us. The both versions of the 2 Series has been out for awhile and in fact a heavily revised front wheel drive based 2 Series Gran Coupe just debuted two months ago. Yet the 2 Series saw a 32.4% increase in sales for 2024. Unfortunately BMW doesn’t breakdown that number across the RWD based two-door 2 Series vs the FWD four door Gran Coupe.

Losers:

BMW XM: To the cheers or BMW purists, the XM has struggled to find its footing in the U.S. market. Despite the fact that this was it’s first full year of production, it was still down almost 15% for the year.

Overall Sales Trends:

BMW’s overall US sales saw record numbers in a very volatile year. We also saw a notable milestone achieved with over 50,000 BEV sales for the first time, achieving a 12.3% increase over 2023.
