This BMW CSL was raced in the Daytona 24-Hour events in both 1978 and 1979. It was restored in 1993 to its 1979 look by MOTOPORTER who is currently selling the car on Ebay. After a full bare metal restoration of the tub and mechanicals it made its debut at the 1993 Monterey Historics. It has competed recently in the VARA and HSR West series.

The car originally ran with a black, red, and gold German flag scheme at the 1978 race driven by Gebhardt and Grimbold. It was repainted for the 1979 race co-driven by Steve Earle, white with typical BMW Motorsports colors, red, violet and blue. The car was pictured in a photo spread of the 24 Hour race in Road and Track later that year and featured in many more items such as calendars and advertisements. For the Daytona in 1979 with it raced with an experimental turbocharged engine from the boys in Munich.
