Tesla Passes BMW in US Luxury Sales

The day has come that BMW isn’t fighting Mercedes and Lexus for the luxury crown but Tesla. And as of January Tesla is winning. That’s via the latest data from Experian which noted that Tesla narrowly missed out on the overall luxury crown for 2021.
For January Tesla sales rose 49% year over year to 37,162. That beat BMW registrations which increased only 8.2% with 30,563 sold. That’s a shocking turn of events considering where Tesla was even five years ago and a major wake-up call to the luxury brands (not that they needed it).
BMW is responding with two all electric cars with range of over 300 miles. The BMW iX and BMW i4 are arriving at dealerships this spring and will for the two-pronged attack on the luxury electric market Tesla currently owns outright.
