Today BMW M is introducing the next chapter in its current M4 line-up – the hardcore 2025 BMW M4 CS. The new M4 CS follows the formula we’ve seen with the previous generation by reducing weight, adding more and honing the car for a more focused driving experience o the road and track.
The headline might be the 543 horsepower but given our experience with the nearly identical M3 CS, we can tell you the chassis modifications might be just as important. As with the M3 CS, the M4 CS with all wheel drive and automatic. BMW will claim this is how they’re able to get a 0-60 time of only 3.2 seconds. But there will be those who will look at this car and long for the days of the manual M4 CS.
BMW M4 CS – Pricing and Availability
The base MSRP of the 2025 BMW M4 CS is $123,500 plus $1,175 destination and handling. Production begins at Plant Dingolfing in July 2024 which should mean we’ll see the first deliveries in the US by late summer.
The debut for the M4 CS is set for Friday, May 10, at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Laguna Seca in the United States and the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps World Endurance Car race in Europe. The M4 CS will be produced at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing from July 2024, with order books opening at the end of May.
In terms of positioning, the M4 CS sits neatly between the M4 Competition Coupe with M xDrive and the limited-run M4 CSL. It’s a showcase of BMW M’s Motorsport heritage and technical expertise, designed for everyday driving with the capability to shine on the track.
The 3-litre inline-six engine, mated with an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive, is key to laying down the 3.2 seconds to 60 mph. According to BMW it’s also key in getting the M4 CS around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in only 7:21.99.
The engine in the M4 CS is a higher-output version of the S58 unit used in the current M3/M4 series. It features a robust crankcase, a forged lightweight crankshaft, and a 3D-printed cylinder head core for optimized cooling. The engine’s power delivery is complemented by a spirited exhaust note from its titanium rear silencer, enhancing the M4 CS’s track-oriented character.
The M4 CS comes with M Compound brakes as standard, with optional M Carbon ceramic brakes for enhanced stopping power. It rides on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear forged M alloy wheels with high-performance tyres, ready for both road and track. Carbon fibre plays a significant role in reducing the M4 CS’s weight, with a carbon fibre roof, bonnet, front splitter, and rear diffuser contributing to a 77-pound weight reduction compared to the M4 Competition Coupe.
Inside, the M4 CS features M Carbon bucket seats, providing both comfort and support for spirited driving. The BMW Curved Display with M-specific graphics and the latest BMW iDrive operating system offer intuitive controls and a driver-focused experience.
