The BMW Performance line of parts has been available for the 1 Series for some time now and the line for the 3 was recently introduced.
Since these parts are designed, and installed by BMW certified technicians they will carry a BMW warranty. These parts are installed after purchase and not at the factory. Many of the parts will be available at your local dealers now though the full line should be available by April of ’09. Here are a few pictures and we will continue to update as we acquire more info.
The 335d configurator finally went live so you can build your own! With the higher base MSRP of this car and a few packages it is easy to break the $50,000 barrier without even trying.
This price-point is approaching/entering 5 Series numbers for a 3er so if the Advanced Diesel will be a success is definitely going to be an uphill battle. As they say, “the proof is in the pudding” so until we are able to put the car through its paces we can’t say the premium is worth it. Though on paper it looks like it will be.
According to the NHTSA, BMW will be instituting a recall campaign on 2500 ///M3s equipped with the DCT double clutch transmission. It affects cars built before Sept 10, 2008. Covering 2008 and 2009 model year cars.
The issue is that when the car is rapidly slowing the transmission software may trigger a mulit-stage downshift. At low speeds this may cause the engine to stall; increasing the possibility of a crash.
To rectify this issue customers will have the engine and transmission software updated free of charge as part of the recall.
This process has reportedly begun and owner’s of ///M3s with the DCT option can call BMWNA at 1-800-831-1117 with any questions.
Didn’t make it to the press preview at the LA Auto Show yesterday? No worries, we’ve got you covered with a full look at the 7 Series hybrid introduction and press conference as well as some shots of the BMW stand in general.
When we broke the news of BMWs new naming scheme and the future badge changes to the Z (sDrive35) we had no idea that it would end up forcing BMW to change its scheduled plans.
For months we had been informed that the Z4 sDrive35 would premiere in LA, with marketing materials released the first week of November (5th to be exact). Initial plans: sDrive registration finished in October, press release in November, production start in December. There was a wrinkle in those plans; in Yokohama. The tire manufacturer also held the sDrive moniker so that is the main hold up and the reason for the delay. All of the marketing items and press information contained photos, and reference to sDrive so it would have taken weeks to correct everything up to product release standards.
With LA already occurring, the Regensburg plant now to be closed for a month from the middle of December there is no rush to release the model. Production would not begin until the end of January now at the earliest.
BMW will be pushing Efficient Dynamics and sustainability at the opening of the LA auto show later today. We originally had been informed that we would be seeing the new Z4 premier today, but that does not look as though it will happen, the launch seemingly has been pushed to Detroit.
With the slowing economy and push for more efficient modes of transportation this places the MINI-E and Active Hybrids at the top of the corporate priority list.
We have confirmed the following with BMWNA and is in fact an official response to complaints about turbo lag. Models affected are the 135i, 335i/xi, 535i/xi and the X6 xDrive35i.
The turbo lag is not overwhelming for most and to some it is not noticeable. The cause of the lag is due to a change in the engine software; some were built with the new software while others obtained it through an update at the dealer. The reason BMW was updating the software was because of certain noise concerns and the by-product of the update was the increase in lag and the desired decrease in noise.
For some time the lag was denounced and was never officially acknowledged; this statement changes all of that. It also indicated engines may be updated with software that does not cause lag but may cause this “noise”. We would think most enthusiasts would welcome the noise over the lag but for certain others it may be the other way around. You apparently will have a choice.
Another official video from BMW Performance about the new 1 and 3 Series line-up. This is the full version of the video we debuted just a few days ago. Look for all of these accessories to be available at any BMW dealer around the world if they aren’t already.
BimmerFile is dedicated to bringing you the most interesting news, links and reviews related to the BMW brand and it's vehicles.
We believe in the old school BMW ownership experience. We believe in garage nights with a six pack and some friends. We believe in 2002s, in E30 M3s and E34 540s with the 6 speed. We believe in progress in both design and engineering but we haven't lost sight of what made the brand and its products great all those years ago. And yes, we believe in the manual transmission.
We long for the days of the wave and for the days of roll-up windows. Yet we love the gadgets on the inside and the xenons on the outside.
In short, we can't get enough of BMWs. This is BimmerFile.
