BMW 1M US Options Sheet

Here ‘s what you need to know if you ‘re buying the 1M and you ‘re ordering in the US. There are very few A la carte options and you ‘ll likely be forced to buy one of both of the packages to get what you want. Now the good news… You ‘re buying a 1M.

Pricing won ‘t be announced until the Detroit Auto Show the 2nd week of January. But beyond that we know pretty much everything else.

BMW NA has (very) unfortunately packaged options like Bluetooth and Navigation into two packages; premium and convenience. So in my case where I originally wanted just two options (Navigation and Bluetooth) I now have a mostly loaded car. And yes, that ‘s my order above. You can see the full options list after the break.

    Congrats Gabe….I’m officially jealous.

To be honest, I don’t really know what to feel about this. It’s a relatively minimalist enthusiasts car catering to a relatively hard-core drivers base, which is great. Then, presumably the accountants, someone at BMWUSA got a hold of the spec sheet and dictated, “thou shalt buy host of useless crap,” just to get iPod integration, a standard feature on virtually every new car. That comes a la carte on a standard 1. Why must everything be bundled?

Don’t get me wrong. I. Love. This. Car. I’d have it in orange, if I can play my cards right, I will. With zero options.

I don’t want power seats. I don’t want auto-dimming mirrors. I don’t want ambient lighting. I do want bluetooth and iPod integration, but I’ll do without to avoid buying the package.

I live where it gets cold and I’ll drive this thing year round. Do I have to buy the premium package to heat my seats too?

  • http://bimmerfile.com Michael

Gabe congrats BUT you NEED heated seats! Early spring days and the late fall yield days that are cold and since the added complexity and weight of power seats are already there why not heat them?

  • Natextr

Well done! I agree with Michael, you should get the heated seats.

Are you going to Munich to collect the car?

  • 03Beastcharmer

Congrats. Not a fan of the bundles on an enthusiasts focused car.

  • Gabe

Eh. I used to be a big fan but I’ve kinda forgotten about them given my current cars are without. I’m typically a less is more kinda guy. But I also love technology. The result is typically an unhappy car ordering experience (unless I’m buying a MINI who coincidentally know how to a la carte stuff).

    Agree 100%

If all you want is the the ipod integration it can be installed by the dealership or the owner. I agree that it should be standard though.

  • Michael

I completely agree with Matthew. $47,000 (approx) and I won’t get standard iPod integration. Unbelievable. Now I would need to pay a couple thousand to get the $500 worth on options I wanted, Comfort Access and iPod.

  • Micah

Based on the bundled packages I would order exactly zero options on mine, adding an iPod connection after the fact. Items like power/heated seats, nav, surround sound can add a surprising amount of weight, and for me become more distractions from the task at hand: driving.

Other than a brake fluid change & possibly pads, will then change to 18” non-staggered wheels to decrease unsprung mass significantly, reduce understeer, & allow for front to rear wheel/tire rotation…then drive it hard at every available opportunity.

So funny Gabe, I also have the same build on my service order. Good build heh.

We’ll have more news on this on BimmerCast #41 tomorrow.

Congrats Gabe! And please don’t make your car ordering experience an unhappy one! You cant really go wrong with or without any of those options…it will be a great car no matter what you choose. As for the heated seats…I could take them or leave them. Would you turn down a drive in an F40 because your bum is cold (for a few seconds). Please. Ridiculous luxury.

  • Micah

Has anyone ordered a color other than white? Gunna a lot of this color out there based on folks initial choices…

My dealer has already sold one in each color. Looking forward to seeing the Valancia in person but for a ///M for me Alpine White is the only option. Sad to say that even if the GTS came to the US my first stop would be a complete covering in Alpine. To me its the true color of BMW racing and hence the only option.

  • Jon

Congrats, Gabe. I look forward to seeing photos/videos of your new car. Do you know when you’ll be getting it yet?

You’re in my head. If I had the $, didn’t love my ZHP as much as I do, then I’d be purchasing this car and I’d be following Micah’s plan.

The only thing I’d consider adding would be the heated seats IF AND ONLY IF I could have them without having to order the entire premium package to have the power seats. The above list looks like we could have nothing except the heated seats, which is promising.

I like the limited colors, though I’d probably go back and forth forever between the orange and AW.

  • IT WRKS

Gabe are you selling your ZHP? Or do you even have that any longer?
