It ‘s not unsurprising given the 740i but Autblog has confirmed that BMW NA intends on offering a six cylinder 6 Series Coupe for the first time in the US since the E24. The six cylinder will of course be the venerable N55. However in the 640i as in the 740i, it will be the higher performance version 315-hp.

As most know the N55 inline 6-cylinder engine features what BMW calls TwinPower Turbo technology, piezo direct fuel injection, Valvetronic, and Double-VANOS steplessly variable valve timing all in an effort to bring maximum power and efficiency. The big question for the enthusiasts out there; will it comes with a manual? Given the fact that the 650i has one, we ‘d assume so. In fact if we were asked (and no is) we ‘d call the 640i Coupe with less weight and more than enough power, the theoretical pick of the 2012 6 Series line-up.

Look for the 640i Coupe to debut soon and be on-sale this fall.
